Your Role
We are seeking an experienced DBA to join the Database Engineering team. Activities include the definition of needs, benefits, and technical strategy; research & development within the database systems life-cycle; technical analysis and design; and support of operations staff in executing, testing and rolling-out solutions. You will:
- Work with applications groups to performance tune and troubleshoot SQL code
- Work with business units and developers to map out conceptual designs for planned databases
- Install and test new versions of the DBMS, MS SQL Server and PostGreSQL
- Control access permissions and privileges to adhere to audit controls
- Develop, manage and test back-up and recovery plans
- Develop, manage and tune SQL Server Replication
- Ensure that storage, archiving, back-up and recovery procedures are functioning correctly
- Communicate regularly with technical, applications and operational staff to ensure database integrity and security
- Engineer database related solutions for various project and operational needs
- Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures; contribute to and maintain system standards; create and maintain documentation as it relates to configurations
- Research and recommend innovative, and where possible automated approaches for database administration tasks.
- Identify approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale
- Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups
- Perform regular security monitoring to identify any possible issues
- Provide database support per request from various departments. Investigate and troubleshoot issues
- Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning
- Write database documentation, including data standards, procedures and definitions for the data dictionary (metadata)
What You’ll Bring
- BE or BS Degree in one of the following subject areas: Computer Science, Information Technology or related field preferred
- 5+ years in Information Technology
- 5+ years IT operation with strong understanding of database structures, theories, principles, and practices
- 5+ years Microsoft SQL Server experience
- Experience with AWS a plus
- Proficiency in TSQL
- Extensive understanding and proficiency in data modeling required
- Experience and proficiency in data warehousing
- Experience and proficiency in using reporting
- Understanding of, and experience with, server-client computing and relational database environments
- Knowledge of C# and/or Java is a plus.
- Experience with PowerShell required
- Experience with data management and data processing flowcharting techniques
- Knowledge of reporting and query tools and practices
- Good interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
- Technical documentation skills
- Self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail
- Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
- Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
