The Manager of Payroll will be a motivated and experienced payroll professional who leads a team for all domestic and international payroll and benefits related processing, accounting and reporting. This person thrives in a fast faced environment and communicates professionally with both managers and employees while demonstrating complete discretion and confidentiality. Organization, detail-orientation, and communication are critical to the success of this role. This position reports to the Director of Accounting Services.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES/CORE ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Partnering with other accounting functions as well as human resources to ensure accurate financial and payroll results.
- Leading the payroll team to support business growth while also generating efficiencies.
- Manage the payroll teams, including the establishment of operational objectives, metrics, and assignments.
- Ensure all payroll processing and payroll accounting functions, including review of periodic payroll, journal entries, and filing of all taxes are completed timely and accurately.
- Ensure payroll tax payments are in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local tax laws.
- Ensure all general ledger journal entries and reconciliations are completed accurately and timely.
- Develop and direct the preparation of reports summarizing payroll, bonus payments, deductions, withholdings, etc.
- Establish, implement and administer internal control policies, procedures and processes for the payroll team to ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley.
- Assist with the communication and implementation of new payroll practices, policies, and procedures across the Company, both domestically and internationally.
- Ensure systems are designed, developed, tested, and implemented to support our growth, complexity, and scale.
- Create training and development opportunities for supervisors and staff.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business-related field
- CPP certification
- Ability to maintain confidence and protect Human Resources/Payroll information.
- Knowledge and understanding of payroll regulations (FLSA), wage/tax law, and record keeping/administration required.
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills
- Comprehensive understanding and prior experience with design and implementation of payroll processes and systems, internal controls, and risk mitigation.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to interact professionally with all levels of the organization.
- Proven success leading a team of people to achieve specified objectives using a collaborative management style.
- Ability to work independently and balance multiple projects and processes simultaneously.
- Ecommerce or Retail industry background
- Experience in fast-paced, rapidly growing environments
- Collaborative and customer-service work style
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Excel, Word and PowerPoint software applications.
- Experience with SAP, ADP, Kronos and time and attendance systems preferred.
- Experience implementing policy, training
- Previous professional work experience: A minimum of 8 years payroll work experience. A minimum of 4 years successfully managing a team of people in high transaction multi-state environments.
