About Centric Health

Centric Health provides primary care through a network of more than 85 GP practices across Ireland, with further operations in Germany and the Netherlands. Our IT team supports GPs, nurses, practice staff and corporate colleagues, and the systems we run sit directly behind patient care. We handle special category health data every day, so security, reliability and compliance with GDPR and NIS2 shape how we work.

About the Role

We are growing our SysOps team and are looking for a Junior SysOps Engineer to join our two senior engineers in running and securing Centric Health's infrastructure. You will work day to day with the SysOps Engineer and the SysOps & Security Lead, taking on infrastructure, cloud and cyber security operations work while building your skills through structured, hands-on experience.

A large part of the role is onboarding new GP practices into Centric Health. You will coordinate third-party suppliers, arrange access and timings with Practice Managers, and get each site ready for go-live, often to tight deadlines.

This role suits someone with a solid grounding in systems administration who wants to move into infrastructure and security engineering in a regulated environment. You will be expected to work carefully, document what you do, follow change control, and ask when you are unsure. Responsibility will grow as your competence does.

Key Responsibilities

Infrastructure and Platform Operations

  • Monitor servers, network and cloud services, and respond to alerts in line with agreed runbooks
  • Carry out routine administration across Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Intune and Azure, including user, group, device and policy tasks
  • Support Active Directory and Group Policy administration across head office and practice sites
  • Take ownership of infrastructure tickets escalated from the Service Desk, resolving them or passing them to senior colleagues with clear notes
  • Check backup jobs daily, investigate failures, and take part in restore testing

Cyber Security Operations

  • Support the SysOps & Security Lead in day-to-day cyber security operations across infrastructure, endpoints, identity and cloud services
  • Monitor and triage security alerts from endpoint, email and identity protection tools, investigating and escalating anything suspicious
  • Take part in security incident response, including containment, log and evidence collection, and post-incident review
  • Maintain identity and access security, including MFA, Conditional Access, privileged access reviews and prompt removal of leaver access
  • Apply secure configuration and hardening baselines aligned to CIS Controls to new and existing systems
  • Monitor and test backups as a key control for ransomware recovery
  • Support security awareness and phishing simulation activity, and follow up with users who need extra help
  • Report suspected security incidents and data breaches immediately, in line with GDPR and NIS2 reporting requirements

Patching and Vulnerability Management

  • Deploy and verify security patches for servers, endpoints and core platforms within agreed timeframes
  • Work through vulnerability scan findings, remediate where approved, and track each item to closure
  • Help maintain an accurate picture of patch and vulnerability status for reporting to IT leadership

Security Compliance and Audit

  • Collect and organise evidence for ISO 27001, CIS Controls and NIS2 audits and internal reviews
  • Help keep security risks and remediation actions up to date in the IT risk register
  • Check that new suppliers and third parties working on our systems follow agreed security and access requirements

Practice Onboarding

  • Take responsibility for agreed onboarding tasks when new GP practices join Centric Health, from initial site survey through go-live and handover to the Service Desk
  • Get each site ready technically, including network and firewall, server, endpoint, identity and device enrolment
  • Make sure each new practice meets Centric Health's security baseline before go-live, including MFA, device management, endpoint protection and backup
  • Coordinate third parties, including our managed service partner, regional IT support companies, the practice system vendor, and broadband and telephony providers, scheduling their work and confirming it is complete and to standard
  • Arrange site visits, cutover windows, access and user readiness with Practice Managers, keeping them informed so disruption to clinics is kept to a minimum
  • Work to fixed go-live dates and tight deadlines, re-planning quickly when suppliers or sites slip
  • Track tasks, dependencies and risks against onboarding runbooks and checklists, and flag early anything that threatens the go-live date

Change and Projects

  • Plan and carry out changes through the change management process, with testing and rollback steps documented
  • Contribute to infrastructure projects such as device management rollout, cloud migration and legacy system decommissioning

Documentation and Standards

  • Write and maintain SOPs, runbooks, and system and network documentation
  • Keep asset and configuration records accurate and current
  • Follow approved SOPs and security policies without exception

Essential Skills and Experience

  • One to three years in an IT infrastructure, systems administration or senior service desk role
  • Hands-on experience with Windows Server, Active Directory and Group Policy
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 administration, including Entra ID and Exchange Online
  • Sound understanding of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, VPNs and firewalls
  • Some scripting experience, ideally PowerShell
  • Sound understanding of cyber security fundamentals, including patching, MFA, least privilege, backups, and common threats such as phishing and ransomware
  • Experience coordinating work with third-party suppliers or contractors
  • Able to plan and prioritise your own work to meet fixed deadlines
  • Good written English and a habit of documenting your work
  • Willingness to travel to practice sites across Ireland when needed

Desirable

  • Microsoft certifications such as MD-102, AZ-104 or SC-300, or CompTIA Network+ or Security+
  • Experience with Microsoft Intune and Windows Autopilot
  • Experience with Azure infrastructure, including virtual machines, networking and cost management
  • Exposure to Cisco Meraki or other SD-WAN and firewall platforms
  • Experience with Hyper-V or VMware
  • Experience with Microsoft Defender, a SIEM, or vulnerability scanning tools
  • Practical exposure to ISO 27001, CIS Controls, NIS2 or GDPR
  • Experience in healthcare or another regulated sector
  • Experience working with an ITSM platform and a managed service provider

About You

  • Careful and methodical: you check before you change, and you ask when you are unsure
  • Organised, able to juggle several sites, suppliers and deadlines at once
  • Calm under pressure when clinical services are affected or a go-live is at risk
  • Able to explain technical issues in plain language to Practice Managers and other non-technical staff
  • Discreet and responsible with confidential and patient data
  • Security-minded: you never bypass a control to save time, and you speak up when something looks wrong
  • Keen to learn, open to feedback, and interested in building a career in infrastructure and cyber security Junior SysOps Engineer
