Sr. Software QA Engineer, Factory Software

Tesla

What To Expect

Tesla's Factory Software team builds the systems that keep our factories running — equipment management, maintenance operations, real-time IoT, construction planning, and supply chain automation across every gigafactory worldwide. The software we ship runs on factory floors, drives real-time decisions, and directly impacts production output. Quality isn't optional here — when things break, factories feel it.

You'll own quality end-to-end across our platform: building test automation frameworks, driving CI/CD pipeline reliability, and ensuring that every release — from backend APIs to AI-powered agents — works under real manufacturing conditions. You'll work directly with engineers and factory operations to catch problems before they hit production and build the tooling that makes the entire team ship faster with confidence.

This is not a typical QA role. This is protecting the nervous system of Tesla's manufacturing operations — and your work will directly build a world of amazing abundance.

What You'll Do

Design and execute end-to-end functional, integration, and automated testing across web and mobile applications that support factory operations

Build and maintain reusable test frameworks for UI and API testing (Playwright, Cypress, Selenium) with emphasis on long-term maintainability and scalability

Develop and execute automation strategy across backend services (Go, Rust, C#, TypeScript), frontend (React, Angular, Next.js), and AI-powered workflows

Set up and maintain CI/CD test pipelines for continuous test execution, reporting, and fast feedback loops

Perform cross-browser, accessibility, internationalization, performance, and security testing across the platform

Validate AI agent behavior and LLM-based automation workflows — ensuring agentic systems produce correct, reliable outputs

Collaborate directly with engineers, product managers, and factory operations teams to define quality standards and prioritize testing efforts

Analyze complex failures, identify root causes, and drive resolution — turning production issues into automated regression coverage

What You'll Bring

Degree in Computer Science, or related, or equivalent experience

Software testing experience with strong expertise in both manual and automation testing

Proficiency in test automation frameworks and scripting (Playwright, Cypress, Selenium WebDriver, Python, JMeter, or equivalent)

Experience building reusable, maintainable test frameworks for both UI and API layers

Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines and how to integrate automated test suites into rapid deployment workflows

Experience testing event-driven architectures, APIs (REST, gRPC, GraphQL), and distributed backend systems

Familiarity with AI/LLM-based systems — ability to design test strategies for agentic workflows, prompt-based features, and non-deterministic outputs

Strong database skills — ability to write queries, validate data integrity, and test against SQL and NoSQL datastores

Thrive in a fast-paced, high-autonomy environment where you ship often and own quality outcomes

Clear communicator who works well across engineering, product, and operations teams
