Machine Operator

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Machine Operator for our 1st and 3rd shifts. The 1st shift runs from 6:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Thursday, and the 3rd shift operates from 8:30 PM to 6:30 AM, Monday night through Friday morning. All new hires will train on the 1st shift during their first week, with orientations held every Monday and Wednesday.

Responsibilities

  • Complete and be proficient in all requirements for the Automatic Press Operator Trainee position and independently run presses.
  • Prepare presses and work sites for set up, following set up instructions.
  • Set up presses within all press categories, including preparing and adjusting straighteners, feeders, aligning stock, and assisting with transfer system set-up.
  • Prepare dies for installation, including installing and removing dies in the press.
  • Operate automatic presses while following general operator instructions and control plans.
  • Monitor and maintain press fluid levels, including changing lubricant and properly disposing of waste oil.
  • Verify proper raw material stock against router and check sheets.
  • Load, remove, start, end, and band steel coils.
  • Utilize various systems (Intranet, Kanban, EAM) to obtain job task information and order materials.
  • Safely operate hi-los, overhead cranes, and die carts to load and unload steel coils, transport dies, move scrap, and transport finished products.
  • Troubleshoot presses using Smart Pac, CNC computers, and controls to ensure quality and maximize production.
  • Perform all tasks associated with a changeover and coil changing safely.
  • Use the torch and plasma cutter as needed.
  • Learn to modify and adjust existing press control programs.
  • Assist in the training of Automatic Press Operator (APO) trainees as needed.

Essential Skills

  • Experience in machine operation and production.
  • Proficiency in using hand tools and performing assembly tasks.
  • Mechanically inclined with experience in automotive repair.
  • Familiarity with inspection processes and forklift operation.
  • Ability to use a tape measure, calipers, and other measuring tools.
  • Experience with overhead cranes and materials handling.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in plastic injection molding.
  • Background in manufacturing and automotive industries.
  • Experience in companies like Knape & Vogt, Challenge Manufacturing, Ridgewood Industries, and Dennen Steel.
  • Mechanic experience with cars.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Grand Rapids, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $28.00/hr.
