Job Title: Machine Operator

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Machine Operator to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for operating shearing machines to cut metal materials to specified dimensions, ensuring precision and quality in every cut. This role requires attention to detail, adherence to safety protocols, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate power shears to cut metal objects such as plates, sheets, slabs, billets, or bars to specified dimensions and angles.
  • Adjust rake and pressure of the blade using handwheels.
  • Position and clamp stops and side guides to set the length and angle of the cut using rules, built-in gauges, or templates.
  • Start the machine to clamp the workpiece and lower the blade to cut the metal.
  • Lay out cutting lines on metal using rules, squares, or templates when shearing single pieces.
  • Tilt bed, blade, or install fixtures to shear, bevel, or trim fabricated items as needed.

Essential Skills

  • Experience using measuring tape and caliper (1-2 years)
  • Ability to document in English

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working within a metal fabricating environment
  • Bilingual

Work Environment

This position is based in a job shop environment characterized by a loud metal fabrication setting. Work hours are from 6 am to 2:30 pm on the first shift.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Northbrook, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.00/hr.
