The role

You will be part of the engineering team responsible for designing, developing, and supporting backend applications and services. The team works closely with product managers, architects, frontend engineers, and other technical stakeholders to deliver secure, scalable, and high-quality solutions.

As a Technical Lead – Java Backend, you will lead the backend engineering work for key applications and services. You will provide technical direction, support architecture and design decisions, mentor backend engineers, and ensure the team follows strong coding standards, security practices, and agile delivery methods.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and mentor backend engineers, providing technical direction and guidance across Java-based application development.
  • Design and develop scalable backend services, RESTful APIs, and integrations using Java, Spring Boot, and related frameworks.
  • Collaborate with product managers, architects, frontend developers, and other stakeholders to define technical solutions and delivery estimates.
  • Support backend architecture decisions, including microservices, design patterns, database design, and cloud-based service configuration.
  • Review code, maintain engineering standards, address technical debt, and improve performance, reliability, and security.
  • Prepare technical documentation, support deployment releases, and contribute to continuous improvement of development practices.

What we need to see from you

  • Strong hands-on experience in Java backend development, including Spring Boot or Spring Framework.
  • Good understanding of backend architecture, RESTful API design, microservices, MVC patterns, and secure coding practices including OWASP standards.
  • Experience working with databases, SQL, data modelling, stored procedures, and backend data services.
  • Practical knowledge of cloud services, preferably AWS services such as Lambda, API Gateway, Elastic Beanstalk, EKS, SES, SNS, MariaDB, or MongoDB.
  • Ability to lead technical discussions, mentor engineers, review code, and support issue resolution in an agile delivery environment.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively across teams.
