Job Title: CNC Operator

Job Description

This role involves operating CNC machines in a high-volume manufacturing environment to produce precision-formed powertrain components for automotive and industrial applications. You will work on 2nd or 3rd shift after completing initial training on 1st shift, consistently meeting production targets while maintaining quality standards. The position requires a strong focus on safety, accuracy, and efficiency, along with a positive, coachable attitude and solid work ethic.

Responsibilities

• Operate CNC machines, including lathes and mills, to produce high-volume precision parts in a manufacturing environment.
• Run production on assigned CNC equipment, consistently producing between approximately 500 and 1,100 parts per shift while maintaining quality standards.
• Perform basic machine adjustments, including offsets and assisting with changeovers, under the guidance of more experienced operators or machinists.
• Read and interpret blueprints and production documentation to ensure parts meet specifications and tolerances.
• Use measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges to perform in-process inspections and verify part dimensions.
• Accurately enter and track production and quality data using PLEX software and other shop-floor systems as required.
• Monitor machine performance throughout the shift, identify issues, and escalate concerns to supervisors or maintenance when necessary.
• Follow standard operating procedures and safety guidelines at all times to maintain a safe work environment.
• Stand for the majority of the shift while operating equipment and performing inspections.
• Participate in training during 1st shift for one to four weeks to learn processes, equipment, and quality expectations before transitioning to 2nd or 3rd shift.
• Collaborate with teammates and supervisors, demonstrating strong coachability, a positive attitude, and a willingness to learn and improve.
• Support continuous improvement efforts by following best practices and providing feedback on processes and equipment.
• Assist with or perform basic checks using CMM equipment when required, depending on experience and training.

Essential Skills

• At least 6 months of CNC operating experience in a manufacturing environment, with CNC lathe experience preferred.
• Experience working in an automotive or other high-volume production setting is preferred.
• Hands-on experience with machine operation, including running CNC machines such as lathes and mills.
• Ability to perform offsets and assist with machine changeovers in coordination with another operator or machinist.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints to ensure parts meet required specifications.
• Practical experience using micrometers, calipers, and gauges for dimensional inspection.
• Familiarity with PLEX software or similar manufacturing execution or production tracking systems.
• Capability to stand for the majority of an 8-hour shift while operating equipment and performing inspections.
• Strong coachability, work ethic, and positive attitude, with a willingness to learn and accept feedback.
• Basic understanding of manufacturing processes and machine operation, with at least 6 months of general machine operating experience.
• Ability to work 2nd shift (3:00 p.m.–11:00 p.m.) or 3rd shift (11:00 p.m.–7:00 a.m.) after completing training on 1st shift.

Work Environment

The role is based in a brand new, very clean, and well-lit manufacturing facility that is fully climate controlled, providing a comfortable environment year-round. The production floor houses a large number of CNC machines, including lathes and mills, and uses PLEX software and precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, gauges, and CMM equipment. All new hires train on 1st shift for one to four weeks, then transition to either 2nd shift (3:00 p.m.–11:00 p.m.) or 3rd shift (11:00 p.m.–7:00 a.m.), with a shift premium applied after moving off 1st shift. The work requires standing for most of the shift and operating equipment in a structured, safety-focused production environment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Macomb, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr.
