Material Handler

Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Material Handler to join our team. The position offers flexible shifts, including Monday through Friday from 2:00pm to 10:00pm, or Sunday through Thursday from 10:00pm to 6:00am. This role is crucial in ensuring the smooth operation of our production area by supplying necessary materials and handling inventory.

Responsibilities

  • Operate forklifts or other equipment to load or move materials.
  • Supply the production area with needed materials from inventory.
  • Load or unload materials onto or from trailers, pallets, trays, or shelves.
  • Process required paperwork accurately and efficiently.
  • Read work orders via onboard computer and follow oral instructions to ascertain materials and products to be moved.
  • Examine materials received, verify part numbers, and check for discrepancies such as damaged shipments.
  • Implement procedures for handling discrepancies.
  • Convey materials or products from storage or work sites to designated areas.
  • Scan and attach identifying tags or labels to materials, bales, or other containers.
  • Lift heavy objects by hand or with equipment to assist machine operators.
  • Operate lift trucks safely and efficiently.
  • Relate with all customers and co-workers in a professional manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to meet business needs.

Essential Skills

  • Experience with non-palletized forklifts is a must.
  • Strong communication skills, including written, verbal, and computer-generated communication.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Strong knowledge of receiving, warehouse, and material handling methods and operations.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Graduation from high school or GED equivalent preferred.
  • At least one year of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the job.
  • Computer skills are required.

Work Environment

This role is situated in a manufacturing plant that uses corrugated paper. The work is performed in a shop environment where workers are regularly exposed to dust, odors, noise, and variable temperatures. Employees work with moving mechanical parts, ensuring safety measures are adhered to at all times.

This is a Contract position based out of Grand Rapids, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $21.00/hr.
