Job Description

General Description:

NOVA Workforce is seeking an experienced instructor to deliver classroom training that

will prepare students to successfully pass the Project Management Professional certification exam. Professionals with specific industry experience including healthcare are encouraged to apply.

This is a non-credit course and requires 36 instructional hours for adult learners which will be taught evenings and/or Saturdays throughout the year. NOVA Workforce Adjunct faculty members are responsible for effectively planning and teaching courses in the designated discipline/field of study to students from a variety of academic backgrounds and experiences. Teaching may include a variety of formats: face to face, remote, and online. Teaching load is based on student enrollment and staffing needs. The adjunct faculty contract contains no expectation or guarantee of continued employment.

Duties and Tasks:

  • Teach Project Management Professional (PMP) Exam Preparation courses.
  • Develop course syllabi utilizing PMI’s PMP preparation instructional materials.
  • Maintain records, assign grades, and assess student progress.
  • Adhere to NOVA and VCCS policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Maintain current competence in SHRM and/or closely related certifications.
  • Provide quality instruction with established materials, meeting assigned classes as scheduled.
  • Submit required records and reports routinely and adhere to the statement of professional ethics in accordance with NOVA and VCCS policies, procedures, and regulations.

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications

KSA’s:

  • Credentialed as a PMP.
  • Deep knowledge of Project Management theory, PMI’s approach, and current applications in the workplace.
  • Knowledge in Canvas/Blackboard or related LMS usage for instruction (assignments, quizzes, discussion boards, gradebook, modules).
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive working and learning environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills and classroom management skills.
  • Ability to work with groups of varying ages and skill levels – including differentiating instruction.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Minimum Work Experience:

  • Two (2) years of teaching experience in project management.
  • Experience training adult learners.
  • Experience using learning management systems (Canvas, Blackboard, etc.)

  • Industry experience in Healthcare, Construction, Federal Contracting, Construction.
  • PMP specializations including ACP and CPMAI.
  • Prior experience teaching in higher education.
