About the Opportunity

Our client is a Canadian technology and engineering organization delivering mission-critical solutions across defence, aerospace, and advanced data environments. They are seeking a Systems Administrator to support the design, deployment, administration, and maintenance of highly secure enterprise infrastructure.

This role offers the opportunity to work on complex programs and specialized systems in a collaborative engineering environment, supporting both operational and customer-facing projects.

What You'll Do

  • Install, configure, administer, and maintain Windows and Linux-based systems
  • Support VMware and virtualized infrastructure environments
  • Participate in system, network, and hardware design activities
  • Configure and troubleshoot network infrastructure, including switches, routers, and firewalls
  • Implement and maintain security controls in highly secure environments
  • Support Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, IIS, and related services
  • Develop and enhance automation, scripting, and deployment processes
  • Troubleshoot complex system, network, and infrastructure issues
  • Assist with hardware installation, rack-and-stack activities, cabling, and equipment deployment
  • Maintain configuration management, documentation, and compliance requirements
  • Collaborate with engineering teams, customers, and stakeholders to deliver technical solutions
  • Support disaster recovery, high availability, and system resiliency initiatives

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of Systems Administration experience
  • Diploma, Degree, or equivalent technical education in Information Technology, Computer Systems, Computer Science, or a related field
  • Strong administration experience with:
    • Linux
    • Windows Server
    • VMware
  • Experience working in collaborative team environments
  • Strong networking knowledge including:
    • Switching
    • Routing
    • Firewalls
    • Network troubleshooting
  • Experience with security-focused system administration, including:
    • Security hardening
    • Network scanning
    • Security tools
    • Firewall rule management
    • Air-gapped or restricted environments
  • Scripting experience using Bash, PowerShell, Python, or similar technologies
  • Experience with virtualization and containerization technologies
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills

Nice to Have

  • Terraform or Infrastructure-as-Code experience
  • Docker or container platform experience
  • SUSE Linux experience
  • Perl scripting
  • Git or configuration management tools
  • Backup and recovery solutions
  • Experience with NIST 800-171, CIS benchmarks, or secure classified environments
  • Networking certifications or equivalent experience (CCNA/CCNP-level knowledge)
  • Experience with OSPF, BGP, VLANs, spanning tree, and enterprise switching technologies

Security Requirements

  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain Canadian Secret Security Clearance
  • Must be eligible to participate in the Controlled Goods Program
  • Candidates should have a strong likelihood of meeting Canadian government security clearance requirements

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Richmond, BC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $75.00/hr.
