Job Description

Join the Service Reliability and Observability (SRO) department to design modern observability architectures that span over 100 platforms and 100,000 container environments. The SRO department is responsible for developing and providing modern observability services and standardised practices to ensure IT systems in Danske Bank are reliable and save time for infrastructure and software engineers.

Our observability services are relied on by SREs and engineers to identify root causes when systems fail or to uncover opportunities for performance optimisation. But the value goes well beyond root cause — the same platforms surface business insights, enable automated migrations into AWS, and provide dependency views across a landscape of over 100 different platforms, 1,000 applications, 15,000 VMs, and 100,000 container environments. If you enjoy bringing simple and effective decisions within complex and interdependent systems, making the right trade-offs when deploying services on AWS, and thinking through how components should fit together on a scale, then this role could be your dream job.

This role will provide an opportunity to work with following technical stack – Observability Toolsets (Opentelemetry, Grafana, ElasticSearch, Prometheus, Logstash, Vector, Tempo), Containerization (EKS, OCP, Kubernetes), Automation (Ansible, Chef, AzureDevOps, GitHubActions, Python, APIs), Private and Public Cloud (AWS, Azure Cloud) infrastructure technologies - Networking, Databases, Messaging technologies, Application Runtime (Java, .NET, python, etc..), Data engineering (ETL pipelines, Data Governance, GraphDB, etc..) and Agentic AI.

What You Will Be Doing:

You will collaborate with Engineering Managers, Architects and Product Owners to design interdependent observability services that provide business insights and enable automated AWS migrations. Your work will guide technology choices across the department while ensuring scalable, resilient systems that serve thousands of engineers and SREs.

  • Drive technology choice and architectural decisions, with a strong focus on system design and AWS deployment architecture.
  • Drive product selection and develop a holistic, modular observability service strategy.
  • Design interdependent observability services that scale across a large, diverse infrastructure landscape.
  • Leverage performance engineering to enhance service efficiency and optimize costs.
  • Integrate AI and GenAI technologies to unlock new opportunities.
  • Design and implement Observability Services for an emerging agentic ecosystem of applications and platforms
  • Embed observability and evaluations into the Agentic AI ecosystem to strengthen visibility and assure quality across the agentic development lifecycle.
  • Share architectural direction and industry best practices with stakeholders to guide infrastructure and software engineers.
  • Promote standardized DevOps and automation practices within SRO.

About you

We believe you are a good match for this role if you have a broad understanding of multiple technologies and have achieved expert-level proficiency in AWS and system design. Experience in at least some of the areas below is required; expertise in all of them is not expected.

  • Ten years of experience in Software Engineering, Infrastructure Engineering, or Cloud Architecture
  • Advanced knowledge of AWS cloud platforms and distributed system design) or working knowledge of GCP or Azure.
  • Experience with Server-side technologies: Linux, Windows, Kubernetes, EKS, OpenShift, etc.
  • Knowledge of infrastructure technologies: Databases, networks, load balancers, TCP, etc.
  • Experience with modern observability tools like OpenTelemetry, Grafana, or Prometheus
  • Experience with automation tools: CI/CD pipelines, Chef, Ansible, and similar
  • Programming skills in Python, Go, Java, or similar languages
  • Knowledge of SRE principles including monitoring and root cause analysis
  • Solid proven analytical, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Understanding of performance engineering and system optimisation
  • High sense of ownership and can-do approach
  • Advanced English language skills

Experience applying AI technologies to deliver business value would be a valuable addition to your background.
