SUVI is seeking a Software/Data Engineer to support our IRS customer to design, build, and optimize high-performance data pipelines and ETL processes powering a web-based search and analytics application. This role requires the extraction, transformation, and loading of data from various sources (including relational databases and file formats), developing data adapters in Python, and fine-tuning workflows for speed and scale.

Responsibilities

  • Extract data from a variety of structured and semi-structured data sources including MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, and PostgreSQL databases; delimited text; and JSON.
  • Develop logic to cleanse, transform and normalize data into a standard data model.
  • Write and optimize SQL queries for efficient data extraction and manipulation.
  • Collaborate as a member of an Agile Scrum team, participating in sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives.
  • Perform rigorous testing and debugging to ensure the stability and performance of data adapters.
  • Optimize ETL pipelines for scalability and efficiency.
  • Prepare and maintain comprehensive technical documentation for all development work.
  • Tune performance of large-scale data workflows for cost efficiency, low latency, and high availability.
  • Design and manage Elasticsearch/OpenSearch clusters for fast search, indexing and retrieval of large datasets.
  • Integrate new systems with existing data warehouse structures, enhancing performance and functionality.
  • Implement CI/CD pipelines for data systems, automate monitoring/alerting and apply infrastructure-as-code best practices.
  • Participate in Program Increment (PI) and Agile Release Train (ART) activities.

Qualifications

  • Active Top Secret clearance and SCI eligibility with the ability to pass a CI polygraph.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in an IT related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in Python development, with a focus on ETL processes.
  • 3-5 years of experience writing SQL queries.
  • Proficiency in working with relational databases, specifically MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, and PostgreSQL.
  • Strong understanding of data transformation, cleansing, and normalization concepts.
  • Familiarity with version control systems (e.g. GIT) and collaborative coding practices.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience working in an Agile Scrum environment.
  • Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Bash).
  • Proficiency with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker).
  • Experience working in Linux environments.

This is a hybrid role that requires working on-site in Chantilly, VA, one day per week.

Desired qualifications:

  • Experience with the Celery task management framework (Python).
  • Familiarity with ETL tools and frameworks.
  • Strong knowledge of performance optimization techniques for Python and SQL systems.
  • Experience with AWS cloud platforms.
  • Experience designing and managing Elasticsearch clusters for indexing and searching data.
  • Familiarity with RabbitMQ for distributed messaging.
  • Knowledge of DevSecOps practices and tools used in classified environments.
