Job Title: 1st Shift Press Operator

Job Description

This role operates metal stamping presses to produce intricate small parts using progressive dies in a clean, climate-controlled manufacturing environment. You will handle a healthy mix of repeat jobs, light hand work, and inspection tasks while following established processes and maintaining a high level of attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Operate metal stamping presses ranging from 30-ton to 200-ton to produce intricate small parts from thinner gauge material (up to approximately 3/8" thickness).
  • Set up and run progressive dies and other tooling according to established procedures and work instructions.
  • Perform routine job changes every few days, ensuring accurate setup and smooth transitions between jobs that repeat on a monthly or quarterly basis.
  • Carry out light hand work as needed, including deburring, hand transferring parts, and basic finishing tasks.
  • Inspect parts during and after production using measuring tools such as tape measures and calipers to verify dimensions and quality.
  • Monitor machine operation, identify irregularities, and take appropriate action to maintain safe and efficient production.
  • Follow established processes and standard operating procedures consistently and accurately.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area to support safety and efficiency.
  • Work proactively to stay busy and contribute to team productivity, including assisting with general labor tasks when needed.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors about job status, quality concerns, and improvement opportunities.

Essential Skills

  • Experience or strong interest in machine operation within a manufacturing environment.
  • Mechanical aptitude with the ability to understand and work with mechanical equipment and tools.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to follow established processes and procedures accurately.
  • Ability to read and use a tape measure for basic measurements.
  • Basic experience with calipers and other simple measuring tools for inspection.
  • Comfort working with sheet metal and thinner gauge materials.
  • Capability to perform general labor tasks associated with machine operation and part handling.
  • Strong ability to learn new equipment, processes, and tasks quickly.
  • Reliability and willingness to work any of the three shifts as needed.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Background in metal stamping or press operation is preferred but not required.
  • Experience operating other types of presses, such as printing presses, plastic injection molding machines, casting, or forging equipment, is highly valued.
  • Interest in transitioning into a manufacturing or skilled trades career (for example, from automotive or other manufacturing roles).
  • Process-oriented mindset with a preference for structured, repeatable workflows.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced environment and staying consistently engaged.

The facility operates across all three shifts and offers flexible work hours based on operational needs. The shop is climate-controlled and relatively clean for a machine shop environment, providing a comfortable and consistent workspace. You will work with metal stamping presses from 30-ton to 200-ton capacity, handling thinner gauge sheet metal materials and using basic measuring tools such as tape measures and calipers. The culture emphasizes autonomy and trust, with minimal micromanagement and an expectation that employees stay engaged and productive throughout their shift.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $41600.00 - $58240.00/yr.
