Balfour Beatty UKCS Scotland is seeking an ambitious and commercially driven Quantity Surveyor to join our team delivering the landmark ASTI Netherton Hub Project near Peterhead.

The Netherton Hub forms a key part of SSEN Transmission's Pathway to 2030 programme and is one of the most strategically important energy infrastructure developments currently under construction in Scotland. The project will strengthen the UK's electricity network, facilitate the connection and transmission of renewable energy, and help support the country's journey towards Net Zero. Once complete, the development will comprise a 400kV substation, 132kV substation and multiple HVDC converter stations, creating a major energy hub for the North East of Scotland.

This is a unique opportunity to join Balfour Beatty UKCS Scotland and contribute to a nationally significant infrastructure project while advancing your career on a complex, high-profile development.

What you'll be doing

As Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for the commercial management of project works from inception through to final account. Working closely with the Project Manager, operational teams, clients and subcontractors, you will ensure commercial objectives are achieved whilst maintaining excellent stakeholder relationships and supporting successful project delivery.

Key Accountabilities

• Commercial management of allocated project packages.
• Preparation and submission of applications for payment.
• Management of contract variations and compensation events.
• Cost forecasting, budgeting and financial reporting.
• Administration of NEC contracts.
• Measurement and valuation of works.
• Procurement and commercial management of subcontractors.
• Preparation and agreement of subcontract accounts.
• Identification and management of commercial risks and opportunities.
• Production of monthly cost/value reconciliation reports.
• Support project teams in achieving financial and operational targets.
• Assist with cash flow forecasting and project reporting requirements.
• Ensure compliance with Balfour Beatty governance and commercial procedures.
• Maintain accurate project records and contractual documentation.
• Build and maintain positive working relationships with clients, suppliers and project stakeholders.

Who we're looking for

Essential

• Degree, HNC or HND in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related discipline.
• Previous Quantity Surveying experience within construction, civil engineering, infrastructure or utilities environments.
• Strong understanding of contract administration and commercial management principles.
• Experience working with NEC contracts.
• Excellent numerical, analytical and negotiation skills.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities.
• Ability to work effectively within a collaborative project environment.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and commercial reporting systems.
• Full UK Driving Licence.

Desirable

• Experience delivering major infrastructure, energy, utilities or civil engineering projects.
• Experience within substations, HVDC, renewable energy or transmission projects.
• Membership of, or working towards, RICS, CIOB or ICES accreditation.
• Knowledge of risk management, change control and project controls processes.
• Experience managing complex subcontract packages and supply chains.
