Machine Learning Engineer (AI Platform & Services)

As a Machine Learning Engineer at Hilti, you will be part of our global AI Platform & Services team, building and operating scalable AI solutions that enhance personal, team and customer productivity and power business-critical applications.

You will work at the intersection of data science, software engineering, and platform engineering, turning advanced analytics machine learning models, and LLM-based applications into robust, production-grade solutions used across Hilti’s global value chain—from customer-facing digital products to internal decision-making systems

What You'll do

Key Responsibilities

• Develop & Deploy AI Solutions
• Design, build, and deploy machine learning models and AI services at scale
• Translate data science prototypes into reliable, production-ready pipelines
• Implement end-to-end AI workflows (training, evaluation, deployment, monitoring)
• Agent & GenAI Engineering
• Design and implement agent-based systems and orchestration workflows (e.g., LangGraph or similar frameworks)
• Apply prompt engineering and structured interaction patterns to improve solution reliability and quality
• Build modular, reusable components for:

o Prompt orchestration

o Tool integration

• Knowledge retrieval
• Platform & Engineering Excellence
• Contribute to Hilti’s AI MaaS (Model-as-a-Service) platform
• Build reusable components and services (APIs, microservices) for AI solutions
• Ensure high standards in:

o code quality

o testing & CI/CD

o security & compliance

• Operate & Scale AI Systems
• Monitor performance, reliability, and data drift of ML models and LLM-based systems in production
• Evaluate output quality, reliability, and consistency of AI systems
• Improve scalability, cost-efficiency, and resilience of deployed solutions
• Work with cloud-native architectures (Azure ecosystem)
• Collaborate Across Functions

Partner closely with:

o Data scientists

o Product Owners

o Software Engineers

• Domain experts (e.g., marketing, logistics, construction software) Enable Reuse & Adoption
• Contribute to standardization and reusable patterns within the AI platform
• Support enablement of other teams through documentation, tooling, and best practices

What You’ll Bring

• Education & Experience
• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Data Science, Engineering, or related field
• 2–5 years of experience in Machine Learning Engineering, AI Engineering, Software Engineering, Data Engineering or Data Science.
• Strong programming skills in Python
• Preferred Experience with:

o ML frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-learn)

o Agent-based frameworks / orchestration tools (e.g., LangGraph, LangChain, or similar)

o Data processing & retrieval (e.g., Pandas, Spark, RAG)

• Preferred Experience building and deploying models using:

o REST APIs / microservices

o containerization (Docker)

o CI/CD pipelines

• Cloud & Platform (preferred)
• Experience with Azure (e.g., Azure ML, Azure OpenAI, Azure AI Foundry, Functions, Storage)
• Familiarity with MLOps / LLMOps concepts:

o model lifecycle management

o monitoring & observability

o automated retraining pipelines
