Job Title: CAD Designer / Drafter

Job Description

The CAD Designer / Drafter supports the Architecture and Engineering department by producing accurate lease exhibits, zoning drawings, and construction drawings with a strong focus on civil design and site grading for telecommunications projects. This entry-level role works closely with project managers, engineers, and other designers to translate client requirements and field information into clear, detailed, and compliant drawings while following established drafting standards.

Responsibilities

  • Create detailed lease exhibits, zoning drawings, and construction drawings based on client requirements, field sketches, site photos, and internet map images.
  • Apply civil design and site grading principles to produce accurate and buildable drawings for telecommunications-related projects.
  • Perform peer reviews of drawings prepared by other designers as part of a structured quality control process.
  • Review and incorporate drawing comments and redlines from clients, project managers, engineers, and peer reviewers in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Maintain all project files, drawings, and reference materials in an organized manner, following established drafting and documentation standards.
  • Use AutoCAD to draft, revise, and update structural, civil, and electrical details as required by project scope.
  • Collaborate closely with team members in the Architecture and Engineering department to ensure consistency and alignment with project goals.
  • Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders to clarify design intent, resolve issues, and support problem-solving throughout the design process.
  • Follow company procedures and standards for drawing production, naming conventions, and file management.
  • Contribute to a team-oriented environment by being a reliable, cooperative, and supportive team player.

Essential Skills

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD for drafting and design work.
  • Ability to create and modify lease exhibits, zoning drawings, and construction drawings from sketches, photos, and map images.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in drafting and documentation.
  • Ability to interpret and apply redlines and comments from clients, project managers, engineers, and peer reviewers.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills to collaborate with internal teams and address design issues.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills in a technical drafting environment.
  • General office skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to organize and maintain project files and materials according to established standards.
  • Willingness to work in an entry-level drafter role and learn industry-specific practices in telecommunications and engineering.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Certification in CAD Design or an Associate degree in CAD Design is strongly preferred.
  • Open to candidates from other technical backgrounds and disciplines who have strong drafting skills and are interested in an entry-level drafter position.
  • Knowledge of civil CAD design, including site grading, is a plus.
  • Familiarity with steel or structural CAD design is advantageous.
  • Exposure to electrical CAD design is beneficial.
  • Experience or interest in telecommunications-related drafting or engineering projects is a plus.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-based, quality-focused design environment.

Work Environment

This role is based in a headquarters office within a cubicle-style environment that supports collaboration and focused design work. The CAD Designer / Drafter works closely with a team of designers, engineers, and project staff who support telecommunications projects, including site acquisition, entitlements, engineering, project management, and construction management. Work is primarily computer-based, using AutoCAD and standard office software such as Microsoft Word and Excel. The environment follows typical professional office standards for conduct and attire, with an emphasis on teamwork, organization, and adherence to established drafting and documentation procedures.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Overland Park, KS.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $24.00/hr.
