Job Title: Mechanical & Robotics Technician

Job Description

The Mechanical & Robotics Technician supports the operations and maintenance team by repairing and maintaining material handling equipment, pneumatic systems, and automated packaging and distribution equipment throughout a large fulfillment facility. In this role, you install, maintain, and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and robotic systems while documenting preventive maintenance activities and contributing to a safe, efficient, and highly automated environment. You also have the opportunity to mentor junior technicians and help them grow in their technical careers.

Responsibilities

  • Promote a safe working environment at all times by following all established safety procedures and standards.
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance routines on material handling equipment and related systems, ensuring all work is properly documented.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical and mechanical issues on Material Handling Equipment (MHE), including belts, motors, photo-eyes, relays, and related components.
  • Install, maintain, and repair automated packaging and distribution equipment and associated pneumatic systems throughout the building.
  • Conduct predictive maintenance procedures to identify and address potential equipment failures before they occur.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and electrical schematics to diagnose issues and complete repairs accurately.
  • Apply knowledge of electrical and electronic principles to support troubleshooting and repair activities.
  • Use a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to receive work orders, record maintenance activities, and track equipment history.
  • Track, organize, and store department inventory, parts, tools, and supplies to support maintenance operations.
  • Maintain a positive and professional working relationship with operations personnel and other teams across the facility.
  • Provide guidance and informal mentoring to junior technicians to support their development and adherence to best practices.
  • Support project work and small improvement initiatives, contributing to planning and execution as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with Material Handling Equipment safety standards in accordance with Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) and internal safety requirements.
  • Operate and troubleshoot robotic or electromechanical systems, including basic input and output functions.
  • Use PC applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook to communicate, report, and maintain documentation.
  • Work flexible schedules, including weekends, nights, and holidays, to support 24/7 operations as required.
  • Travel up to approximately 20% as needed to support other facilities or training requirements.
  • Perform physically demanding tasks, including repetitive bending, crouching, kneeling, reaching, twisting, standing, and walking for extended periods.
  • Lift parts and tools weighing on average 20 pounds and occasionally up to 49 pounds as part of daily maintenance activities.

Essential Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, shifts, and areas, including weekends, nights, and holidays.
  • At least 1 year of experience using PC applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Experience in industrial and equipment maintenance environments.
  • Ability to perform preventive maintenance tasks with accurate documentation.
  • Ability to troubleshoot basic mechanical and electrical issues on material handling equipment.
  • Capability to move and lift items up to 49 pounds and to stand and walk for shifts lasting up to 12 hours, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Comfort working in physically demanding conditions involving repetitive bending, crouching, kneeling, reaching, twisting, standing, and walking.
  • Strong attention to safety and adherence to safety procedures in an industrial setting.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to maintain positive working relationships across teams.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Associate degree or higher from a vocational school or college with a focus in mechanical or electrical fields.
  • 2 years of experience with automated conveyor systems and controls.
  • 2 years of experience in the repair of material handling equipment.
  • 2 years of experience conducting predictive and preventive maintenance procedures.
  • 1 year of experience in metal and wood fabrication.
  • 1 year of experience reading blueprints and electrical schematics.
  • 1 year of experience applying electrical and electronic principles in a maintenance or industrial environment.
  • Experience working with Material Handling Equipment safety standards in accordance with OEM and safety requirements.
  • Project management experience supporting maintenance or facility improvement initiatives.
  • Experience using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) for work orders and maintenance tracking.
  • Experience with robotic or electromechanical operation and maintenance.
  • Ability to troubleshoot basic input and output functions in automated systems.

Work Environment

You work in a large, highly automated fulfillment facility that operates around the clock, supporting fast-paced logistics and distribution activities. The environment includes material handling equipment, automated conveyor systems, robotic and electromechanical equipment, pneumatic systems, and a range of industrial machinery. You use tools and technologies such as CMMS software, Microsoft Office applications, and diagnostic equipment to perform maintenance and troubleshooting. Shifts may be long and can include nights, weekends, and holidays, with the need to stand and walk for up to 12 hours. Physical demands include repetitive bending, crouching, kneeling, reaching, twisting, and lifting parts and tools averaging 20 pounds and occasionally up to 49 pounds. Working conditions may involve small or confined spaces, exposure to dust, fumes, and odors, hot and cold temperatures both inside and outside, noise, vibration, standing on concrete floors for extended periods, and navigating wet or uneven surfaces. Appropriate work attire suitable for an industrial maintenance environment is required to support safety and comfort.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $29.00 - $29.00/hr.
