Description

Trintech is the leader in AI Financial Close Management, helping finance and accounting teams transform the way they work by eliminating manual burdens, strengthening controls, and empowering strategic decision-making.

We are looking for a Software Architect to own the technical architecture of the Agent Stream — the agent orchestration engine, inter-agent communication contracts, data layer design, and on-prem to cloud migration path. This is a hands-on IC role, not an advisory one. You write design documents, build foundational components, review critical PRs, and set the engineering quality bar by example. You report to the Director of Engineering and are the senior technical IC in the stream, collaborating with the Engineering Manager on delivery and with Tech Leads across squads on implementation quality. The right person reasons from first principles in distributed systems and system design. Cloud-native production experience required; Azure preferred.

What You’ll Do

Architecture Ownership

  • Own the Agent Stream architecture end-to-end — the orchestration engine, inter-agent contracts (handoffs, shared context, escalation chains), data layer design, and on-prem to cloud migration sequencing: what moves first, what requires refactoring, how to maintain continuity throughout.
  • Define structured event emission standards for every agent — what must be emitted for platform-level observability, audit, and metering. Own instrumentation standards that enable traceability and evaluation across the stream.
  • Make and document foundational architecture decisions with clear rationale, trade-off analysis, and long-term implications. Proactively identify design debt, scalability bottlenecks, and failure cascade risks before they affect delivery.

Hands-On Technical Delivery

  • Commit to code — build foundational components, review critical PRs, lead high and low-level design sessions, whiteboard architecture decisions, and challenge proposals with depth.
  • Collaborate with the Platform Architect on decisions that span agent and platform layers: event contracts, authentication boundaries, and service integration patterns.
  • Define and enforce engineering standards across the Agent Stream — API contract design, service observability, test coverage, and event emission. Provide technical direction to Agent Stream Tech Leads as the senior technical IC.

Who You Are

Distributed Systems & System Design — Primary Gate

  • 12+ years in software engineering with primary depth in large-scale distributed systems — failure modes, scalability trade-offs, and design reasoning from first principles. Engineering reasoning is the gate, not tool familiarity. The ability to explain why a design was chosen, what failure modes it introduces, and what changes under different constraints is what is evaluated.
  • Owns all Agent Stream architecture end-to-end: component boundaries, data contracts, and service-level design at both high and low level.

Cloud Native & Infrastructure

  • Production experience on at least one public cloud — Azure preferred. Includes Kubernetes, Docker, Helm, CI/CD pipelines, and continuous release practices. Experience sequencing on-prem to cloud migrations: what moves first, what requires refactoring, and how to maintain continuity.

Security & Identity

  • OAuth 2.0 and IAM — production experience with authentication flows, token management, and identity propagation across services. Defence-in-depth awareness sufficient to design agents that do not introduce security gaps. Identifies risks and escalates to the Platform Architect.

API, Event & Data Design

  • API design and OpenAPI contracts — service-level agent boundaries and inter-service communication patterns. Event emission design for structured downstream platform consumption covering observability, audit, and metering.
  • Multi-tenant patterns: tenant isolation, scoped data access, and per-tenant configuration at agent and service level. PostgreSQL at production scale: schema design, query optimisation, and data modelling for agent state and audit logs.

Code Quality & Standards

  • Defines what well-structured, testable, and observable code looks like at the architectural level. Reviews critical code across the stream, identifies systemic quality issues, and sets the engineering bar through example.

Awareness

  • Workflow orchestration — Temporal or equivalent event-driven patterns, sufficient to design agents integrating correctly with the platform workflow layer. Observability: trace standards, structured logging, Langfuse. Security principles beyond OAuth sufficient to identify risks and escalate to the Platform Architect.

Nice to Have

  • LangChain and LangGraph — agent orchestration frameworks for building and composing multi-step agent graphs, tool use, and state management. Familiarity with AI-native SDLC and Human-led Agentic SDLC practices is a plus.
  • Production experience in Python — enables deeper code review and hands-on contribution to the agent codebase. Not a gate for this role; architecture depth matters more than the language.
  • Azure certification demonstrating cloud platform depth. Financial close or R2R domain experience to accelerate ramp-up on the business context the platform serves.

What You’ll Learn & Gain

  • End-to-end ownership of the technical architecture layer on a live enterprise financial platform used by global customers. Your architectural decisions are implemented at scale, with direct visibility into how they shape product behaviour and engineering outcomes.
  • Deep hands-on experience in distributed systems design, cloud-native engineering, and event-driven architecture in a production context where scalability, auditability, and reliability all matter simultaneously and cannot be traded off lightly.
  • Exposure to building AI agent infrastructure in a high-compliance, SOX-governed environment — learning to balance system performance with explainability, traceability, and enterprise audit requirements in a production AI product.
  • Close collaboration with engineering managers, tech leads, and a platform architect in a fast-moving, squad-based delivery model. Your architectural choices are implemented and validated rapidly, with tight feedback loops between design decisions and production outcomes.

If you are an engineer who reasons from first principles, has shipped production distributed systems, and is ready to own the architectural foundation of an enterprise AI platform — we encourage you to apply.
