Job Title: Senior Systems Engineer
Job Description
This Senior Systems Engineer role focuses on applying disciplined systems engineering practices across the full product lifecycle for advanced small turbine engines. You will collaborate closely with hardware development teams, program functions, directorates, and suppliers to develop, integrate, and verify complex propulsion system baselines while leading digital transformation and Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) initiatives. This position offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge small turbine engine programs, support engine and flight testing, and grow into a long-term permanent role within a rapidly expanding organization.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with hardware development teams, program functions, directorates, and suppliers to apply disciplined systems engineering practices across product baseline development, integration, verification, and change planning and execution.
- Lead digital transformation initiatives and contribute to the development and maturation of MBSE processes.
- Support the creation and maintenance of systems engineering models to perform systems engineering tasks and analyses.
- Analyze, decompose, allocate, and validate stakeholder needs and input requirements, including engine interfaces and verification planning.
- Define and maintain engine logical and physical architectures to ensure cohesive and robust propulsion system designs.
- Develop lower-level interface requirements to integrate the propulsion system design across the engine, modules, systems, and components, as well as across engineering disciplines, module technical teams, and external customers.
- Provide systems engineering support throughout the complete engine product life cycle, from concept through testing and sustainment.
- Process and manage outgoing propulsion system requirements to ensure clarity, traceability, and consistency.
- Support content requirements development, configuration, and release while coordinating key integration milestones and technical handoffs.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to understand engine and air vehicle operations, including opportunities to support engine and flight testing activities.
- Lead customer and internal technical reviews throughout the product lifecycle, ensuring that requirements, architectures, and integration plans are clearly communicated and understood.
- Document requirements, validation, and verification activities to support compliance, traceability, and configuration control.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field.
- 5+ years of relevant experience in systems engineering or a closely related discipline.
- Experience with turbomachinery, particularly in the context of propulsion or turbine engine systems.
- Strong background in system integration for complex systems, ideally involving propulsion or turbine engines.
- Hands-on experience with requirements building, validation, verification, and documentation across the system lifecycle.
- Experience in requirements management and requirements engineering for complex systems.
- Familiarity with digital engineering practices and an interest in leading digital transformation initiatives.
- Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) concepts or tools such as Cameo or similar platforms.
- Ability to analyze, decompose, allocate, and validate stakeholder needs and input requirements, including interface and verification requirements.
- Ability to define and manage logical and physical architectures for complex systems.
- Strong communication skills to lead internal and customer-facing technical reviews and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to obtain and maintain eligibility for work on government-related programs.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with DO-160, DO-254, or MIL-STD-810 standards.
- Proficiency with requirements management tools such as IBM DOORS, JAMA, or similar platforms.
- Experience implementing Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) practices in a production environment.
- Hands-on experience with MBSE tools such as SysML Rhapsody, Cameo/MagicDraw, Vitech Core/Genesis, or equivalent.
- Familiarity with Siemens Teamcenter for product lifecycle and configuration management.
- Experience with Siemens NX for engineering design and integration activities.
- Experience using MS Project for planning and tracking engineering work.
- Experience with Jira or similar tools for task management, issue tracking, and agile workflows.
- Previous experience supporting engine or flight test activities.
- Interest in growing into a long-term role with opportunities to expand responsibilities as new programs are added.
Work Environment
You will work in a combined office and laboratory environment alongside a large team of over 200 professionals, predominantly engineers. The setting supports hands-on collaboration with hardware development teams and exposure to engine and test activities. The organization is experiencing rapid growth driven by major government programs, and new small turbine engine programs are being added frequently, creating a dynamic and evolving workload. The culture emphasizes cutting-edge engineering, digital transformation, and MBSE adoption, offering opportunities to transition into a permanent role and grow with the team as the site expands.
