Job Duties
SVMHI has two (2) full-time Nurse Shift Supervisors (NSS) who work a designated evening or night shift and are accountable for patient care for a census up to and sometimes exceeding 72, and for 65-95 nursing employees on duty throughout the facility. The NSS’s plan, direct and coordinate medical and health services in a psychiatric hospital, public health agency for the successful operations of a 24-hour a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year nursing unit at the facility. This position is responsible for the entire hospital operations for the duration of their shift.
With other NSS’s and Unit Managers, ensures administrative presence in facility 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. NSS duties include responding to emergency codes, overseeing admissions and discharge processes on given shift, patient transportation needs, receiving staff call ins and overseeing staffing and scheduling needs for the shift, assisting with nursing staff development, problem solving with electronic health record, electronic nursing scheduling / timekeeping systems, and 24-hour nursing report.

This is a third shift position that will work 11:00 pm - 7:30 am as scheduled. This position will require some flexibility in schedules, which will include some weekends and holidays in rotation as assigned by the Chief Nursing Officer.
Minimum Qualifications
Licensed, or license eligible, and in good standing as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia. License must remain valid throughout employment.
A valid driver's license is required and must remain valid throughout employment.
Previous nursing management and/or Shift Administrator experience.
Extensive work experience in psychiatric nursing.
This position also requires:

Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
Experience as a Registered Nurse in a psychiatric healthcare facility, acute care, long-term or correctional setting.
