Systems Mainframe Engineer

Location: Chandler, AZ (Preferred) | Des Moines, IA (Secondary)

Schedule: Flexible 8-hour shift between 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM PST

Employment Type: Contract

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide Level 2 and Level 3 production support for Automated Credit, Rewards, and Credit Card Hub applications.
  • Monitor production systems and maintain application stability, performance, and availability.
  • Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve failed mainframe jobs and production incidents.
  • Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to prevent recurring issues.
  • Execute and support ad hoc job runs and production requests.
  • Partner with Production Control teams to restart, recover, and validate failed processes.
  • Respond to business user inquiries and application support requests in a timely manner.
  • Manage and update incident records, problem tickets, and support documentation.
  • Monitor and respond to application support mailboxes.
  • Create and maintain JIRA stories, incident documentation, and knowledge articles.
  • Participate in daily handoff meetings and coordination with offshore support teams.

Required Qualifications

  • 6+ years of Mainframe Production Support experience in a large enterprise environment.
  • Strong hands-on experience supporting mainframe applications in production.
  • Expertise with:
    • JCL
    • COBOL
    • CICS
    • DB2
    • CA7
    • IDCAMS
    • Mainview
  • Dynatrace
  • Experience with ticketing, incident management, and documentation tools such as:
    • ServiceNow
    • JIRA
    • Confluence
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to perform effectively in a high-volume, production-critical environment.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work across distributed teams.
