Systems Mainframe Engineer
Location: Chandler, AZ (Preferred) | Des Moines, IA (Secondary)
Schedule: Flexible 8-hour shift between 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM PST
Employment Type: Contract
Key Responsibilities
- Provide Level 2 and Level 3 production support for Automated Credit, Rewards, and Credit Card Hub applications.
- Monitor production systems and maintain application stability, performance, and availability.
- Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve failed mainframe jobs and production incidents.
- Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to prevent recurring issues.
- Execute and support ad hoc job runs and production requests.
- Partner with Production Control teams to restart, recover, and validate failed processes.
- Respond to business user inquiries and application support requests in a timely manner.
- Manage and update incident records, problem tickets, and support documentation.
- Monitor and respond to application support mailboxes.
- Create and maintain JIRA stories, incident documentation, and knowledge articles.
- Participate in daily handoff meetings and coordination with offshore support teams.
Required Qualifications
- 6+ years of Mainframe Production Support experience in a large enterprise environment.
- Strong hands-on experience supporting mainframe applications in production.
- Expertise with:
- JCL
- COBOL
- CICS
- DB2
- CA7
- IDCAMS
- Mainview
- Dynatrace
- Experience with ticketing, incident management, and documentation tools such as:
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to perform effectively in a high-volume, production-critical environment.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work across distributed teams.
