Face Miner

As a Face Miner, you will play a critical role in safely and efficiently delivering underground production activities. Working on the Polyhalite or Salt production panels as part of a production team, you will operate face line machinery to achieve planned output while ensuring safety is the overriding priority. You will contribute to maintaining a safe, productive mining environment that meets ICL Boulby’s high standards of safety, quality and operational performance.

The Responsibilities

Safety

  • Working safely at all times in line with ICL Boulby policies, procedures and emergency protocols.
  • Complying with risk assessments, method statements and all relevant Health & Safety legislation.
  • Understanding and following emergency procedures and ensuring work is carried out using safe working practices.
  • Actively identifying hazards and making informed decisions to manage risk and protect yourself and others.

Operational Tasks

  • Operating face line machinery safely and efficiently to achieve production targets.
  • Carrying out pre start checks and ensuring tools and equipment are used correctly and safely.
  • Completing all required documentation, including logbooks and production records.
  • Participating in SLAMs, risk assessments, method statements and pre shift briefings.
  • Ensuring all work is completed to required safety, quality and operational standards.

Planning and problem Solving

  • Planning your own work to ensure tasks are completed safely and effectively.
  • Identifying operational or safety issues and escalating them to the Overseer or appropriate personnel.
  • Using sound judgement to support hazard identification and risk management during the shift.

Teamwork and Communication

  • Working effectively as part of a production team to meet planned objectives safely.
  • Communicating changes, issues or concerns that may affect the safe operation of the district.
  • Participating in safety and operational briefings and providing constructive feedback.
  • Reporting work completed during the shift to the Overseer and supporting team communication.

Continuous Improvement

  • Contributing ideas and suggestions for improvements to safety, productivity and working practices.
  • Supporting the training, coaching and development of other team members where required.
  • Maintaining confidentiality in relation to individuals, operations and projects.

The Requirements

Experience & Knowledge

  • Good understanding of Health & Safety principles and underground working practices.
  • Awareness of mining support systems, ventilation, geology and technical services.
  • Good understanding of risk assessments and method statement development.
  • Minimum of 18 months underground experience.

Qualifications

  • Level 2 Skills for Life (Numeracy, Literacy, ITQ) or GCSE equivalent/higher.
  • Risk Assessment training.
  • IOSH Working Safely.
  • Effective communication skills.
