Job Title: CMT Technician

Job Description

The CMT Technician will conduct field operations that include sampling, testing, special inspections, and observations using ASTM, DOT, ACI, AWS, and IBC methods and standards. This role also involves assisting engineering staff with project execution and management by understanding engineering practices and construction methodologies as defined by codes and specifications. Proficiency in reading and understanding construction plans and specifications is required, as well as conducting laboratory analysis of construction materials according to specified methods and standards.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct field operations involving sampling, testing, inspections, and observations using standardized methods and standards.
  • Assist engineering staff with project execution and management.
  • Read and understand construction plans and specifications.
  • Perform laboratory analysis of construction materials.
  • Engage in physical activities such as walking on uneven terrain and lifting up to 75 lbs.
  • Travel up to 50%, with 10% travel outside the state of Alabama.

Essential Skills

  • 5 years of experience in construction materials testing (CMT).
  • Proficiency in construction management and inspection processes.
  • Concrete testing expertise.
  • Current certifications such as DOT, ACI, or AWS are preferred.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent required; preference for candidates with a two-year or four-year degree in science, construction, or engineering.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency in report writing and organization.
  • Experience in civil engineering or construction is preferred.
  • Proficiency in technology use.

Work Environment

The role involves working outdoors to sample construction materials and working in a laboratory setting to test these materials. Expect to engage in physical activities and travel as part of the job. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Birmingham, AL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $25.00/hr.
