Overview

The Associate Director of Field Operations is a senior, highly client-facing leader responsible for the strategic direction, performance oversight, and executional excellence of Paid Search (SEM) programs across multiple markets and clients. This role serves as a trusted advisor to senior client stakeholders while acting as a subject-matter expert in Paid Search strategy, optimization, and performance management.

This position plays a critical role in bridging strategy and execution—ensuring Field teams deliver strong SEM results, elevate client conversations, and consistently align Paid Search efforts with broader integrated marketing initiatives.

Responsibilities

Client Leadership & Strategic Partnership

Serve as a senior, visible client contact for Paid Search programs, leading or supporting strategic conversations, quarterly and annual planning, and high-level performance reviews.

Develop and maintain a deep understanding of client business objectives, market dynamics, and competitive landscapes as they relate to Paid Search.

Lead executive-level client meetings with confidence, translating complex SEM performance data into clear, actionable insights and recommendations.

Act as an internal and external ambassador for Paid Search effectiveness, success, and innovation.

Paid Search (SEM) Expertise & Oversight

Own high-level oversight of Paid Search strategy across assigned markets and clients, ensuring consistency, quality, and performance excellence.

Review SEM dashboards and reporting to identify trends, risks, and growth opportunities across accounts.

Partner with execution and analytics teams to guide optimization strategies, testing roadmaps, and platform-specific best practices.

Ensure strong alignment between Paid Search strategies and integrated marketing efforts, including digital, traditional, and cross-tier initiatives.

Stay current on SEM platform updates, industry trends, and emerging best practices, and help translate them into actionable guidance for Field teams and clients.

Budget & Performance Management

Oversee Paid Search budgets in partnership with execution leads, ensuring accurate pacing, forecasting, and optimization.

Identify opportunities for budget shifts, growth investments, or efficiency gains based on performance data.

Ensure proactive, transparent client communication around budget recommendations and performance implications.

Field Team Leadership & Development

Lead, coach, and mentor Field leaders and managers responsible for client-facing Paid Search programs.

Support Field teams in elevating conversations from tactical execution to strategic partnership.

Provide guidance through complex performance challenges, client escalations, and strategic pivots.

Partner with the Head of Field Operations on hiring, onboarding, performance management, and succession planning.

Operational & Cross-Functional Leadership

Ensure seamless collaboration between Field teams, SEM execution, analytics, and account leadership.

Drive consistency in client experience, reporting, and strategic storytelling across markets.

Support the rollout and adoption of Paid Search playbooks, tools, and process improvements that enhance scalability and efficiency.

Qualifications

Extensive experience leading Paid Search (SEM) programs in a client-facing role.

Strong background in digital advertising with deep knowledge of SEM strategy, metrics, and optimization levers.

Proven ability to lead senior-level client conversations and present performance and strategy with confidence.

Experience managing, mentoring, or developing Field or client-facing team members.

Confident and credible client presence with strong influencing skills.

Strategic, analytical thinker with strong attention to detail.

Proactive, solutions-oriented leader who thrives in fast-paced environments.

Team-first mindset with a passion for developing talent and elevating work quality.

Comfortable balancing high-level strategy with hands-on Paid Search expertise.

Experience working with multi-market, regional, or dealer-based client structures preferred.

Familiarity with automotive or retail advertising environments preferred.

Understanding of integrated marketing strategies and how Paid Search supports broader campaigns preferred.

Advertising agency experience strongly preferred.

Compensation Range: $103,000- $110,000 annually.This is the pay range the Company believes it will pay for this position at the time of this posting. Consistent with applicable law, compensation will be determined based on the skills, qualifications, and experience of the applicant along with the requirements of the position, and the Company reserves the right to modify this pay range at any time. Temporary roles may be eligible to participate in our freelancer/temporary employee medical plan through a third-party benefits administration system once certain criteria have been met. Temporary roles may also qualify for participation in our 401(k) plan after eligibility criteria have been met.
