Hiring: Packaging Engineer

Job Description

As a Packaging Engineer, you will lead the rigid plastic tray productivity and sustainability agenda. You will spearhead programs to optimize the Biscuit tray portfolio, delivering savings, reducing material usage, and working closely with suppliers to implement these changes. Additionally, you will focus on optimizing other packaging components such as paperboard cartons, corrugated cases, and flexible films. Your role will involve understanding and improving the interaction between trays and equipment through the distribution system up to the consumer.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the agenda for projects in productivity commercialization, pipeline building, scoping, and sustainability.
  • Implement network-wide programs for packaging components, focusing initially on rigid plastic trays.
  • Identify and commercialize productivity and sustainability initiatives for packaging components.
  • Execute productivity programs across the manufacturing network in Mexico, US, and Canada.
  • Assess and improve packaging specifications for robust, performance-based standards.
  • Follow the I2M commercialization process for assigned projects and maintain communication with key stakeholders.
  • Lead plant trials for packaging materials, coordinating with cross-functional teams.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting during plant trials and ensure proper documentation.

Essential Skills

  • Experience in package development and plant trial execution in a fast-paced environment.
  • Technical skills and ability to learn and execute independently.
  • 3-5 years of experience, preferably in the food industry, with a proven track record in plant trials for R&D.
  • Strong team player with problem-solving capabilities during packaging qualification.
  • Effective communication skills with key stakeholders, including Procurement, Marketing, and Quality.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Proven ability to find technical solutions for packaging challenges.
  • Experience with packaging materials, design, and thermoforming.

Work Environment

The work environment consists of approximately 400 employees at the East Hanover site, where most employees follow a hybrid schedule of 2-3 days per week onsite, with remote options on Mondays and Fridays. There is a preference for candidates to come onsite one day per week, but there is openness to fully remote candidates if they are the right fit. The company offers free lunch for all employees and consultants from Monday to Friday.

This is a Contract position based out of East Hanover, NJ.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $43.26 - $69.00/hr.
