Job Description Summary:

Aviagen is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a 3rd Shift Hatchery Associate. This role is responsible for monitoring and maintaining hatchery equipment to ensure optimal operations during the overnight shift. The position requires a self-motivated individual who can work both independently and as part of a team while following all Aviagen Animal Welfare and Bio-Security protocols.

Job Description:

Applicants are not allowed to own any kind of birds due to the risk of possible disease transmission.

Schedule: Sunday, Monday, Tuesday nights and every other Saturday night – 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM. Pay rate starting at $17.50/hr.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform hourly monitoring of incubation equipment to ensure proper operation.
  • Clean and disinfect work areas, tools, and equipment in compliance with sanitation standards.
  • Assist with light corrective and preventative maintenance tasks as needed.
  • Push hatch sets into incubators as scheduled.
  • Respond to and manage alarm calls promptly.
  • Perform laundry duties to maintain cleanliness of hatchery operations.
  • Load trucks for transport to the Albertville facility.
  • Support other hatchery tasks as assigned by supervisors.

  • Ability to follow strict Animal Welfare and Bio-Security procedures.
  • Willingness to work overnight shifts and maintain a consistent attendance record.

Work Environment

This role involves working in a hatchery environment with exposure to varying temperatures, humidity, and dust. The position requires standing for long periods, bending, lifting, and handling hatchery equipment.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to handle moderate physical work
  • Work with chemicals, such as detergents, disinfectants
  • Stand for extended periods of time (6 hours)
  • Grip, grasp or twist using hands and wrists
  • Lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to 50lbs
  • Bend and stoop repetitively throughout out shift
  • Prolonged exposure to dry and dusty environments
  • Routinely work up to 6 days a week, including weekends and holidays
  • Routine handling and interacting with day-old chicks
  • Ongoing presence of hatchery related debris, smells and odors
  • Climate exposure both hot and cold
  • Working in damp and/or wet environment
  • Working in a loud/noisy environment
