Job Responsibilities:
Submarine mechanics, also known as Outside Machinists, are responsible for all shipboard mechanical work that takes place in Electric Boat's Groton shipyard. Tasks include on-hull machining, installation of components like pumps, valves, weapons systems, communications systems, shafting and propulsion systems, support testing of mechanical components, and much more. Use skills like blueprint reading, precision measuring, fastening threaded fasteners, component layout, etc. all while complying to safety and quality standards. This work is primarily shipboard, internal and external to submarine hulls; off-site and radiological work also exists.
