POSITION OVERVIEW
Under the direction of the Supervisor of the Blood Tribe Youth Wellness Centre, the Youth Addictions Worker will conduct all aspects of the program while working with a team in the delivery of treatment based, residential programs.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide individual and group counselling to youth in a residential treatment setting.
- Develop and implement structured and unstructured therapeutic programming and activities.
- Support case management, including behaviour management and treatment planning.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation including daily logs, intake reports, progress reports, summaries, and treatment team meeting minutes.
- Liaise effectively with multidisciplinary professionals and family members.
- Ensure a safe, secure, and supportive environment free from emotional, physical, sexual, drug, and alcohol abuse.
- Participate in regular staff meetings and contribute to team-based service delivery.
- Maintain cooperative working relationships with colleagues.
- Adhere to organizational policies, procedures, and confidentiality requirements.
- Perform other related duties in support of youth treatment services.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in Human Services, Social Sciences, or a related field, or Certified Addictions Counsellor Level II designation with relevant experience.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle.
- Successful completion of Child Welfare Information System check and Criminal Record Check.
- Current First Aid/CPR certification or ability to obtain within six months of hire.
- Current ASIST and CPI training or ability to obtain within six months of hire.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of current addictions treatment models and best practices.
- Understanding of youth at-risk behaviours, trauma-informed practice, and safety procedures.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of Blackfoot language and culture is considered an asset.
- Effective documentation and organizational skills.
- Ability to build rapport with youth while maintaining professional boundaries.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Personal integrity and commitment to act as a positive role model.
- Demonstrated commitment to maintaining confidentiality and protecting sensitive information.
- Ability to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
