3rd Shift Production Manager

Primary Function:

The 3rd Shift Production Manager is responsible for all manufacturing activities and resources within a group of fabrication departments. Additional tasks and responsibilities include

Responsibilities:

  • Leads, directs, evaluates, and develops a team of supervisors who are responsible for all Tank Production activities
  • Determines required manufacturing staffing levels and makes recommendations for adjustments as needed, drives associate cross-training through Supervisors
  • Executes daily production schedule to include responding to shortages, labor shortages, Quality issues, machine breakdowns and other disruptions.

Productivity & Performance

  • Lead and coordinate production teams to meet or exceed daily output, quality, and efficiency targets
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) including safety, productivity, scrap, downtime, and on-time delivery
  • Identify and resolve production constraints to maintain smooth, high-volume flow
  • Ensure standard work, schedules, and staffing plans are executed effectively

People & Leadership

  • Create a safe, respectful, and inclusive work environment
  • Coach, develop, and motivate team members through regular feedback and performance discussions
  • Train employees on standard work, safety procedures, and quality expectations
  • Promote accountability while recognizing and celebrating team success
  • Monitors and maintains compliance with work rules and standard work instructions
  • Investigates and answers union grievances, as required

Customer Focus

  • Ensure products meet all quality and delivery requirements to support internal and external customer needs
  • Respond quickly to quality issues, root causes, and corrective actions
  • Collaborate with Quality, Engineering, Maintenance, and Supply Chain teams to support customer satisfaction

Continuous Improvement

  • Lead and participate in continuous improvement initiatives (Lean, Root Cause Problem Solving Activities, 5S, etc.)
  • Encourage employee involvement in problem-solving and improvement ideas
  • Use data and root cause analysis to drive sustainable improvements
  • Support implementation of new processes, equipment, or technology

Safety & Compliance

  • Enforce all safety policies and procedures
  • Ensure compliance with company standards, regulatory requirements, and work instructions
  • Lead safety talks, audits, and incident investigations

Job Requirements:

  • 5+ years of leadership experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment
  • Strong understanding of Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement principles
  • Proven ability to lead people while driving performance and accountability
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Proficiency with production metrics, ERP/MES systems, and basic data analysis
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate or Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Previous management experience in a union environment is strongly preferred
