Position Overview
We are seeking an Application Database Administrator (DBA) to support and optimize databases that power critical enterprise applications across the organization. This role will primarily focus on Azure SQL environments, with secondary responsibility supporting PostgreSQL platforms.
The Application DBA partners closely with application development teams, DevOps, and infrastructure teams to ensure databases are designed, deployed, secured, and maintained to meet performance, availability, and scalability requirements. This role emphasizes application-centric database support rather than solely infrastructure-level administration.

Location
This position may be based in Lone Tree, CO; Lenexa, KS; or Omaha, NE, with hybrid flexibility depending on business needs.
Responsibilities
- Administer and support Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, and SQL Server environments supporting enterprise applications.
- Provide secondary administration and support for PostgreSQL databases.
- Partner with application development teams on database design, schema development, query optimization, and performance tuning.
- Support database deployment processes within CI/CD pipelines and DevOps workflows.
- Monitor database performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement optimization strategies.
- Develop and maintain backup, restore, and disaster recovery procedures.
- Implement and manage database security, including role-based access, encryption, and auditing.
- Assist with database upgrades, patching, and lifecycle management.
- Automate operational tasks using scripting tools (PowerShell, T-SQL, Bash, Python).
- Participate in production support activities, including incident response and root cause analysis.
- Maintain documentation for database configurations, standards, and procedures.
- Support cloud governance and cost optimization efforts within Azure environments.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 3+ years of experience supporting application databases in a production environment.
- Strong experience with Azure SQL (primary platform).
- Working knowledge of PostgreSQL administration and support.
- Experience with performance tuning, indexing strategies, and query optimization.
- Familiarity with cloud-based database architecture and best practices.
- Understanding of high availability (HA), disaster recovery (DR), and backup strategies.
- Experience supporting databases within DevOps or CI/CD environments.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Microsoft Azure Database Administrator certification or equivalent.
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code and automation tools.
- Familiarity with containerized or microservices-based application architectures.
- Experience working in enterprise or multi-application environments.
- Knowledge of database monitoring and performance management tools.

Base Compensation: $106,000/yr - $115,000/yr
