The University of Pittsburgh Department of Radiology is seeking a full-time data science professional to support multidisciplinary medical imaging research studies.

Job Summary

Organizes and facilitates data collection and conducts statistical analysis of datasets while working across multiple, simultaneous projects. Applies scientific methodology and statistical analyses to implement appropriate methodologies for complex data management and statistical analyses. Facilitates algorithm development, software development, and result interpretation. Assists with grant preparations and staff training. Manipulates datasets and clean data and facilitates quality control procedures to ensure data accuracy.

Essential Functions

The applicant should have a Master’s degree in data science, bioengineering, statistics, computational biology, mathematical biology, information science, neuroscience, or a related discipline with experience and/or a strong interest in developing a biomedical research career. Prior experience working with magnetic resonance (MR) and/or positron emission tomography (PET) neuroimaging data is highly desirable. The applicant is expected to have strong computer and analytical skills and be comfortable using a variety of hardware platforms and specialized software tools.

Duties include:

Perform data processing and analyses of multimodal medical image datasets (e.g. structural MRI, fMRI, PET) using established pipelines;

Conduct statistical analyses of medical image outcomes and associated clinical and demographic information;

Perform data management tasks that include: organization, reduction, validation/verification, and quality control;

Support methodology development activities related to novel algorithm development and implementation;

Transmit data and outcomes to internal and external databases using established data portals;

Communicate results to investigators in a timely fashion;

Assist senior staff and faculty with data interpretation and reporting tasks;

Support grant and manuscript preparation efforts.

Candidate must be comfortable working on multiple projects in parallel, requiring excellent time management and organizational skills. The position requires coordination, execution, and completion of complex tasks that are critical to research outcomes. The position will be a member of an existing data analysis group specializing in multimodality imaging studies involving positron emission tomography (PET) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) studies that focus on the human brain in disease.
