Position Summary

The Technician (Controls) is responsible for supporting the Stoughton and Indianapolis sites by providing expert troubleshooting and maintenance of control systems. This role requires strong knowledge of wiring for control systems, Allen Bradley PLCs, and HMIs. The position will be based in Stoughton, WI, with remote support for Indianapolis and occasional travel between sites. Additionally, the Technician will assist the Stoughton maintenance department to ensure efficient plant operations, minimize downtime, and maintain a safe and cost-effective environment.

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues with control systems, PLCs, and HMIs.
  • Perform wiring and installation for control systems and related equipment.
  • Provide remote technical support for Indianapolis site and travel as needed for on-site assistance.
  • Assist the maintenance team in Stoughton with electrical and control-related repairs.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance and system upgrades to ensure reliability and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with engineering and maintenance teams to implement improvements and resolve complex issues.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of control systems, wiring diagrams, and programming changes.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and quality standards during all work activities.

Minimum Qualifications

Core Competencies:

  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills for control systems and electrical components.
  • Familiarity with Allen Bradley PLCs and HMIs, including programming and diagnostics.
  • Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams and schematics.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills to support multiple sites.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and maintenance management systems.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent with a minimum of (2) years of maintenance experience or associate’s degree with (1) year of experience required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in electrical controls or automation systems with at least 1-year certified schooling or classes equal to 1 year in electrical, high voltage, HVAC or electrical technology required.
  • Experience must be in a manufacturing environment in the areas of facility maintenance, machine maintenance and repair, equipment installation, and computerized preventative maintenance or trade.
  • Proficient use of electrical and mechanical hand and tools required.
  • Requires ability to lift 60 lbs., climb ladders and work at heights 10-20 feet above plant floor plus working on the roofs of the various buildings.
  • Strong communication skills required.
  • Flexibility to daily roles required.
  • Must be able to work cross-functionally with all other departments.
  • Hands-on experience with Allen Bradley PLCs and HMIs required.
  • Knowledge of electrical wiring, troubleshooting, and repair techniques.
  • Ability to travel between Stoughton and Indianapolis as required.

Working Location:

  • The position is primarily located at Colorcon’s Stoughton, WI site.
  • Ability to travel to the Indianapolis site on a bimonthly basis.
  • Required to participate in emergency on-call rotation.
