WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
The Department of Housing and Community Affairs (DHCA) is seeking to fill Housing Code Inspector positions. The Housing Code Enforcement Section is responsible for administering Montgomery County Codes Chapter 26- Housing and Building Maintenance Standards, Chapter 48-Solid Waste, Chapter 54 - Article III Bed and Breakfast and Short-term Residential Rentals, and Chapter 58-Weeds. They investigate complaints, perform legally required inspections, and educate our citizens regarding their rights and responsibilities in the area of property maintenance.
Housing Code Inspectors are responsible for performing inspections and code enforcement tasks, to work to ensure compliance with housing codes/ordinances and work with residential/business property owners to encourage 65 investment in communities and reverse deteriorating conditions.
These positions will be underfilled at the following levels:
Public Administration Associate, Grade 16
Housing Code Inspector I, Grade 19
Housing Code Inspector II, Grade21
Housing Code Inspector III, Grade 23
A Housing Code Inspector plays a vital role in protecting community health and safety by ensuring residential and commercial properties meet housing standards, which supports the organization’s mission of maintaining safe, habitable, and compliant living environments. Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
If Filled as a Public Administration Associate, Grade 16:
Experience: None.
Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree.
Note: Some occupational fields for which the PAA class is used for training and specialized experience require a specific professional Bachelor’s Degree.
Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
LICENSE: Possession and maintenance at all times of a valid Class "C" (or equivalent) driver’s license from the applicant's state of residence.
MEDICAL EXAM PROTOCOL: This position requires completion of a pre-employment Medical History Form to assess your ability to safely perform the essential duties of the role.
If Filled as a Housing Code Inspector I, Grade 19:
Experience: Two (2) years of code compliance/enforcement and/or law enforcement work or in work directly related to housing field investigation or field inspection.
Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree.
Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
LICENSE: Possession and maintenance at all times of a valid Class "C" (or equivalent) driver’s license from the applicant's state of residence.
MEDICAL EXAM PROTOCOL: This position requires successful completion of a pre-employment medical evaluation, which includes a physical examination and drug screening.
Financial Disclosure Statement: This position is designated as one that requires filing a Financial Disclosure Statement, and you will be required to disclose information about your financial affairs.
If Filled as a Housing Code Inspector II, Grade 21:
Experience: Four (4) years of code compliance/enforcement and/or law enforcement work, one (1) year of which must be in housing field investigation or field inspection.
Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree.
Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
LICENSE: Possession and maintenance at all times of a valid Class "C" (or equivalent) driver’s license from the applicant's state of residence

Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
CERTIFICATION:
LICENSE: Possession and maintenance at all times of a valid Class "C" (or equivalent) driver’s license from the applicant's state of residence.

PROBATIONARY PERIOD: Individuals appointed or promoted to this class will be required to serve a probationary period of six (6) months, during which time, performance will be carefully evaluated. Continuation in this class will be contingent upon successful completion of the probationary period
