This position is responsible for supervising and training a Juvenile Offenders work crew consisting of 2-4 Juvenile Offenders in the proper troubleshooting, installation, assembling, maintaining and repairs to the KJCC complex’s general maintenance systems throughout the building. All work will be related to any related machines and equipment associated to these systems throughout the KJCC complex’s infrastructure. This is vital position of the KJCC complex infrastructure to sustain comfort and life safety standards for the Juvenile Offender’s and staff at Kansas Juvenile Correctional Complex.
General Maintenance and Repair-
Supervise Juvenile Work Crew (2-4) in performing any maintenance and repair related duty as instructed by supervisor. Examples include but are not limited to the following: painting, hanging items, sheetrock repair and equipment repair. Troubleshoots repair requests to determine the best course of action. Move furniture and other items as necessary. Complete any predictive and preventive maintenance duties and pursue any energy savings opportunity and safety advantages for the complex. At times may supervise Residents work crew to complete or perform any maintenance or custodial related duties.
Basic Plumbing and Electrical-
Supervise Juvenile Work Crew (2-4) in performing any basic plumbing and electrical related maintenance and repair task as instructed by Supervisor. Assist the Plumber Senior w/ the more complex duties as necessary. Examples of this include but are not limited to the following: replace flush valves, correct plugged drains and repair water leaks. Assist Electrician Senior w/ the more complex duties as necessary. Examples of this include but are not limited to the following: replace ballasts and bulbs, install or replace light switches and outlets and complete any preventive and predictive maintenance duties
General Complex Inspections-
Supervise Juvenile Work Crew (2-4) in performing any preventative maintenance inspections and any other inspections that the complex deems necessary as required to maintain for compliance with the KSFMO standards. Identify discrepancies on the inspections forms and notify supervisor of discrepancies.
Door Hardware Maintenance-
Supervise Juvenile Work Crew (2-4)-trouble-shoot in performing repair, replace and perform preventive and predictive maintenance on door hardware and electronic door hardware. Assist the Lock Specialist w/ the more complex duties as necessary. Examples of this include but are not limited to the following: replacement lock cylinders, replacing electronic locks, replace or repair door closers, align doors and shim strike plates.
Grounds Maintenance-
Supervise Juvenile Work Crew (2-4)-Performs any grounds related duties as instructed by supervisor. Examples of this include but are not limited to the following: snow removal using manual and mechanical methods, lawn mowing, litter removal, watering, trimming, tree maintenance and other lawn care related task.
Perform other duties as assigned. Attend training as required by KJCC policy.
This position, while performing functions in areas of responsibility, will promote and support satisfactory and harmonious relationships among all staff in all areas of the facility.

Kansas Tax Clearance Certificate Required: Each applicant (even non-residents) applying for a State of Kansas job vacancy must obtain a valid Kansas Certificate of Tax Clearance within 10 days following the offer of employment by accessing the Kansas Department of Revenue's website. In the event that an individual who has been offered employment cannot provide proof of a tax clearance certificate, the individual will be required to enter into a payment plan with KDOR and remain current on such payment plan or make other arrangements with KDOR to achieve the tax clearance required under Executive Order 2004-03. A Tax Clearance is a comprehensive tax account review to determine and ensure that an individual's account is compliant with all primary Kansas Tax Laws. A Tax Clearance expires every 90 days.
