Job Overview: JTEKT’s North American System Engineering Group, located at our Plymouth, Michigan Technical Center, is seeking a highly skilled and motivated engineer to expand our engineering and vehicle analysis capabilities. The position requires a balance of fundamental engineering skills, hands-on vehicle work, and analytical problem solving in a collaborative multi-discipline global team. You will have a direct role in crafting the vehicle’s steering “personality.” Job Expectations: You will be responsible for the developmental activities associated with the calibration and validation of electric power steering actuators in vehicle, through simulation, as well as in laboratory settings. You will be Responsible for vehicle level test specifications, procedures, instrumentation, and simulations, ensuring fulfillment of all IATF audit requirements. Work directly with various automotive partners to ensure all steering objective and subjective metrics are met. Analyze test data, evaluation feedback, and validation results to provide guidance for success. Participate in technical activities associated with system/part development; aid in systematic problem solving; communicate and collaborate with cross functional team members. Late night or early morning communication will be required with global colleagues. Participate in benchmarking activities to gain insight into competitor products, market trends, and product opportunities. Office/lab attendance required dependent on needs of the project. Responsibilities performed in a technical facility with labs, testing equipment, and areas of a traditional office environment. Travel to customer locations, specifically test tracks, domestic and international. Possess a valid driver’s license. Experience in performance or advanced driver training preferred. 5+ years of professional experience in related areas of vehicle development or stability and system control. Very proficient computer skills with ability to learn multiple advanced control software packages. Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication, and presentation skills. High degree of motivation and initiative, with ability to make decisions. Ability to work independently or collaborate on a team. Good planning and organizational skills required to handle multiple project assignments concurrently. Team oriented, patient, positive attitude, and trainable/strong desire to learn. Work Environment: Work is mostly performed in a normal office setting with minimal exposure to health or safety hazards, and with substantial time spent working on a computer. The performance of this position may occasionally require exposure to manufacturing/lab areas which require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses with side shields, steel toed boots, and mandatory hearing protection. Travel by automobile and plane required approximately 5-10% of time.
