Position Summary
As a floating leader, this role travels extensively to support assigned programs, providing interim Director functions, mentoring, and operational stabilization. The Director leads the interdisciplinary team (Case Conference) to meet the needs of the home health patient and family in alignment with Compassus policies and the Home Health Conditions of Participation (Medicare), applicable accreditation standards, and state regulations. The Director may serve as alternate Administrator/Executive Director during absences and may carry a clinical caseload during census ebbs/flows.
Position Specific Responsibilities
- Floats to regional programs based on need at the direction of the Home Health Regional Executive of Clinical Operations.
- Provides remote/virtual assistance to programs for clinical operations, mentoring, and documentation workflows.
- Coordinates travel with regional leadership; adapts to varying program sizes, geographies, and regulatory nuances.
- Directs and manages the Case Conference to ensure coordinated, patient-centered care.
- Supervises up to 45 team members; may temporarily supervise up to 20 during floating assignments.
- Full-cycle people leadership: interviewing, hiring, training, performance appraisal, recognition/discipline, and termination (with administrative approval).
- Manages scheduling, productivity, mentoring/1:1s, pay practices, timekeeping, and team member engagement.
- Leads/attends Case Conference meetings ensuring care needs are identified and discussed with full core team participation.
- Ensures required documentation is completed during/concluding Case Conference to capture decisions, outcomes, and plan updates.
- Participates in care delivery as needed (admissions, re-certs, routine visits, discharge visits).
- Carries a caseload to support census changes and access requirements.
- Manages program pharmacy, medical supplies, durable medical equipment (DME), mileage, and labor to meet budget expectations.
- Acts as Executive Director/Administrator as needed; may be designated administrator or alternate administrator per state licensure requirements.
- Conducts marketing/outreach and provides in-services to referral sources when appropriate to support growth and education.
- Ensures maximum utilization of resources and efficient care delivery.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and/or Experience
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree required; degree in Nursing preferred/required where mandated by state regulation.
- Minimum 1 year of home health experience required.
- Minimum 3 years in healthcare preferred (nursing facility, home health), with leadership/management experience strongly preferred.
- EMR experience strongly preferred.
Skills
- Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage.
- Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from leaders, team members, investors, and external parties. Strong written and verbal communications.
- Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to understand, read, write, and speak English. Articulates and embraces hospice philosophy. Working knowledge of nursing principles, standards and applications. Knowledge of use of medical devices, ambulatory aides, assistive and resistive devices, and training. Knowledge of medical terminology. Ability to work with all types and levels of patients. Strong organizational and time management skills. Must be able to work a flexible schedule to include nights and weekends. Must be able to travel.
Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations
- Active and unencumbered licensure as RN in the state(s) of employment (and additional states in the Region as required for floating coverage).
- Current CPR certification required.
Physical Demands and Work Environment: The demands of this role necessitate a team member to effectively perform essential functions. Adaptations can be made to accommodate team members with disabilities. Regular standing, walking, and manual dexterity are fundamental, along with the ability to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds. Visual acuity requirements include close and distance vision, color and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. In a healthcare setting, exposure to bodily fluids, infectious diseases, and conditions typical to the field is expected. Routine use of standard medical equipment and tools associated with clinical care is essential.
