As part of the Advanced Design team, this position is responsible for using expert engineering skills to design, analyze, prototype, test and launch our next generation of breakthrough products. This role requires a high level of proficiency in 3-D CAD modeling, including advanced surfacing, with Creo/ProE, as well as additional aptitude in analysis, critical thinking, testing, manufacturing processes, documentation control, and time management in a fast-paced environment. In addition this position will serve as the lead for future driver concept development, responsible for the team’s idea generation, vetting and development of new technologies. This will require strong communication skills to share progress of key projects with senior leadership and drive decision making through key milestones.
Essential Functions and Key Responsibilities:
- Use advanced skills with computer-aided design software Creo/ProE to conduct a wide variety of complex tasks in the creation and development of new designs and prototypes
- Use Hypermesh and ABAQUS to conduct advanced FEA
- Collaborate with teams on new designs and lead engineers in small group projects
- Create accurate and controlled files, engineering drawings, and specifications. Effectively communicate details with Asia-based vendors.
- Engage in product testing in lab and outside test environments. Conduct research-oriented studies to further knowledge and understanding of performance and product usage.
- Participate in component measurement and product evaluation to ensure design features, part assembly, or manufacture of components is within desired specs. Conduct lab testing independently, handle and check parts
- Support activity related to patent filing or patent researching. Supply the Legal Department with design view renderings, mockups, and anything else Legal needs to determine if a patent infringement exists or to draft patents
- Participate regularly in process improvement within areas of responsibility. Continually develop better and faster ways of designing clubs in the computer
- Lead brainstorming activities, organize ideas and manage the down selection of concepts to feed the technology pipeline
- Support the process to vet ideas; help manage project assignments by creating clear goals and objectives to build knowledge around new concepts
- Communicate technology development progress to senior leadership and executives
- Performs other related duties and assignments as required
Knowledge and Skills Requirements:
- Fluent verbal and written English communication skills required
- Advanced CAD skill with Creo/ProE or similar parametric modeling
- Strong knowledge of materials (Carbon & Stainless Steels, titanium & aluminum alloys, polymers, and composites)
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing methods (Investment casting, Forging, Machining, Etching, Welding, Coating, Injection molding, etc.)
- Strong communication skills and collaboration mentality; excellent interpersonal skills; ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization (e.g. marketing, sales, engineering, production, Tour reps, technicians, etc.)
- Experience with 3-D design software is required (Creo/ProE), including knowledge of advanced surfacing
- Experience with FEA tools (i.e. Hypermesh & ABAQUS)
- Experience in critical data analysis and statistical thinking (Hypothesis testing, Design of Experiments approaches (DOE), Reliability)
- Experience in setting up and designing tests, testing equipment and fixtures with a “hands-on” mentality
- Various analytical skills and software experience a plus (Matlab, Minitab, Life Data Analysis)
- Knowledge of golf principles and associated terminology is strongly preferred
Education, Work Experience, and Professional Certifications:
- Bachelors degree in related Engineering field (advanced degree is preferred)
- 15+ years of experience in CAD Design and engineering experience directly related to the essential functions and responsibilities described within
- Golf industry experience is preferred
Work Environment / Physical Requirements:
- Normal office conditions with extensive computer and phone usage.
- Ability to work extended hours as necessary.
- Able to work efficiently and accurately in an atmosphere of frequent interruption.
- Light physical effort equal to frequent lifting or moving of lightweight materials.
- Frequent travel may be required.
TaylorMade is a performance driven organization and our total rewards approach to compensation is designed to support this. We consider many factors in determining base compensation, including position scope, job related knowledge, education, skills, experience, and work location. The expected annual base pay range for this position is $140,000 - $155,000. Additional benefits, such as health & wellness, performance bonuses, product discounts, holidays, paid time off, etc. may also be offered in accordance with our plans.
