Platform Engineer

The Role:

As a Platform Engineer, your role is crucial in maintaining, evolving, and improving the organisation’s technology infrastructure to enhance reliability, scalability, and developer autonomy. You will design, implement, and maintain Flutter UKI’s platform infrastructure, contributing to both the development of new platforms and the enhancement of existing ones. Your responsibilities include platform development and maintenance, system monitoring and optimisation, capacity planning, automation, security and compliance, and incident management and support — all within a culture of continuous improvement.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of infrastructure and platform systems. Contribute to the design, implementation, and maintenance of platform services and tooling that enable engineering teams to deliver independently and at scale.
  • Continuous Improvement: Actively identify and drive opportunities to improve reliability, performance, security, and developer experience. Evaluate and adopt new technologies and approaches where appropriate.
  • Automation & Self-Service: Implement automation solutions and practices that reduce manual processes, promote efficiency, and support self-service for development teams.
  • Ownership & Accountability: Take full ownership of squad deliverables, demonstrating responsibility and initiative. Lead and coordinate workstreams or incidents as required.
  • Mentorship & Role Modelling: Serve as a role model within the squad, mentoring peers and supporting Associate/Graduate Engineers. Share knowledge and best practices openly.
  • Consistency & Reliability: Ensure a consistent delivery approach, maintaining operational excellence and contributing to a reliable and resilient platform.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders. Maintain open communication and high-level engagement with teams, including Development, Operations, and Security.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Work closely with other squads and departments to align on goals, share learnings, and continuously improve ways of working. Embrace feedback with a positive and growth-oriented mindset.

What You’ll Bring

  • Working knowledge of Platform Engineering principles
  • Hands-on experience with:
  • AWS native services
  • Infrastructure as Code (e.g., CDK, Terraform)
  • Containerization technologies (e.g., Kubernetes, Docker)
  • Networking fundamentals
  • CI/CD systems (e.g., Jenkins or similar)
  • Git and version control workflows
  • Linux operations
  • Infrastructure-specific products, such as virtualization, storage technologies, and hardware appliances Professional Competencies
  • Proven experience managing high-load, high-performance applications
  • Experience supporting cloud-native infrastructure through tooling and automation
  • Aptitude for evaluating and embracing new technologies
  • Ability to contribute to squad structure and ways of working:
  • Develop engineers and mentor peers
  • Identify and fill skills gaps within the team
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and people skills
