Position Summary & Responsibilities

Position Summary: Supervises members of the Unit Team performing case management activities for incarcerated residents. Oversees team activities related to resident case management, guidance, and counseling. Performs evaluations of residents to determine potential for participation in work and reentry programs. Reviews and approves recommendations related to parole plans and eligibility. Participates in staff related activities to include but not limited too: hiring, performance management and personnel actions for assigned employees.

Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Manages a caseload of assigned residents. Assists residents with adjustment to incarceration, program completion, rule compliance, release planning, and reintegration into the community. Utilizes and demonstrates proficiency in risk reduction skills including motivation interviewing and cognitive strategies.
  • Meets with residents no less than monthly to address risk and needs areas and other significant issues. Increased emphasis should be placed on higher risk residents based on needs assessment including RDU evaluations, LSI-R scores, program treatment summaries, and other resident assessments.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based practices in corrections and demonstrates proficiency in risk reduction skills including motivational interviewing and cognitive strategies.

Qualifications

  • Education: A bachelor's degree with major coursework in criminal justice, the social sciences, or the behavioral sciences and one year of experience working with residents in corrections, parole, or law enforcement.

Licensing & Certification: Driver's License

Minimum Competencies: Applicant will be able to interact with co-worker, residents and outside personnel to establish and maintain effective relationships. Knowledge of evidenced-based practices in corrections and demonstrates proficiency in risk reduction skills including motivational interviewing and cognitive strategies. Applicant selected will have strong organizational skills and function with minimal supervision and direction.

Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements: Must take and pass a drug screening test approved by the Division of Personnel Services. Must pass a physical exam, background investigation and submit a State of Kansas Tax Clearance Certificate.
