What is the opportunity?

RBC’s Vancouver hub is a strategic center for innovation, focusing on engineering, data streaming, AI/ML, and generative AI to address critical challenges in Fraud, Law, and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) across our business lines. As the Director, you will lead the development of cutting-edge solutions, drive hub growth, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable, impactful technology. This role is pivotal in shaping RBC’s future in advanced analytics and AI-driven decision-making.

What will you do?

  • Lead strategic initiatives in AI/ML, generative AI, and data streaming to solve complex problems in Fraud, Law, and AML.
  • Drive hub growth by fostering partnerships, scaling teams, and establishing Vancouver as a leader in financial technology innovation.
  • Collaborate with business lines to identify opportunities, design solutions, and ensure alignment with organizational goals.
  • Oversee end-to-end solution development, from ideation to deployment, leveraging cloud platforms and modern engineering practices.
  • Mentor and grow talent, building a high-performing team capable of delivering transformative technology solutions.
  • Advocate for innovation, staying ahead of industry trends in AI, data streaming, and generative AI to maintain RBC’s competitive edge.
  • Ensure compliance and risk management in all solutions, adhering to regulatory standards for Fraud, Law, and AML.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have:

  • 10+ years of experience in technology leadership, with a focus on AI/ML, data engineering, or generative AI.
  • Proven track record of building and scaling high-performance teams in a fast-paced, innovative environment.
  • Expertise in cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure) and modern data streaming technologies (e.g., Kafka, Spark).
  • Strong business acumen with experience collaborating with Fraud, Law, AML, or related financial services groups.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to align technology initiatives with business objectives.
  • Excellent communication skills to influence stakeholders, present complex ideas, and drive organizational change.

Nice-to-have:

  • Advanced degree (PhD or Master’s) in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with generative AI frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch) and MLOps practices.
  • Knowledge of financial regulations and compliance standards (e.g., AML, GDPR).
  • Certifications in cloud technologies, AI/ML, or data engineering.
