Position Summary

The Department of Mathematical Sciences at Indiana University South Bend has a full-time lecturer position starting August 1, 2026. Applicants should have at least a master’s degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, Actuarial Science, Statistics, or a closely related field, and preference will be given to those with experience/expertise in teaching the courses where the Department has the most need. The teaching load will include 12 credit hours (typically four courses) each fall and spring semesters. Faculty may also be required to teach evening, weekend, off-site, and/or online courses. Summer teaching is voluntary and compensated separately. Lecturers are also expected to participate in service activities to the department, school, campus, or community, such as course coordination, regularly attending and participating in faculty meetings and serving on relevant committees. Successful candidates are expected to be able to teach all 100 level courses offered by the Department and be willing to teach in-person and online classes. Salaries and benefits are competitive.

Basic Qualifications

Required Basic Qualifications:

  • Master’s (or higher) degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, Actuarial Science or a closely related field.
  • Ability to teach all of IU South Bend 100 level mathematics courses.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • An ability to teach both face-to-face and online classes.

Preferred Basic Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated potential of teaching excellence in the areas of mathematical sciences.
  • Experience in supporting curriculum development, experiential learning, and program development in the areas of mathematical sciences.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple sections of mathematical sciences.
  • Evidence of a strong commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Active engagement with the academic and professional community.
  • Demonstrated experience in mentoring students, including guiding involvement in extracurricular activities (e.g., advising of student clubs).
