Minimum Experience/Education
A master’s degree in academic advising, student services, higher education, engineering, or a related field is required. 2+ years of experience involving student services in a higher education setting is required.
Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education:
The candidate must also be attentive to detail, possess strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize while multi-tasking, and manage tasks in an efficient and timely manner. Excellent communication and interpersonal problem-solving skills are a must. Ability to interact effectively with advisees, staff, and faculty required. A viable candidate must comprehend and abide by federal and university student confidentiality requirements. Proficient use of computers (Microsoft Access, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) is necessary.
A working knowledge of BANNER, Banner Self Service, Canvas and DegreeWorks is a plus.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Academic Advisor in the department of Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Science will assist transfer students and second- through senior-year students in their educational goals. Advisors must have the ability to work autonomously in a complex, team-oriented academic office with a significant advising caseload. Temporary staff employees are ineligible to receive benefits (leave, health coverage, State service credit, etc.). They are, however, covered by Worker’s Compensation provisions.
However, any non-permanent employee hired to work 30 or more hours per week for three months or more (cumulative of all positions, and not designated as variable hour worker), must be offered the chance to enroll in the High Deductible Health Plan, within 30 days of their eligibility. Any non-permanent employee hired to work less than 30 hours per week (cumulative of all positions or designated as variable hour worker – i.e. student workers) are measured during designated measurement periods. If they average 30 or more hours per week over a designated measurement period, they will be offered the chance to enroll in the High Deductible Health Plan and will be notified of instructions.
