Title: Viking Pathway Student Mentor

Department: Viking Pathway

Reports to: Viking Pathway Staff, Janna Kohler and Heather Peschel

Position Summary:

Viking Pathway is a transition program that makes college a reality for students with intellectual disabilities. Viking Pathway students attend class, have jobs, learn to live independently, and are involved in VCSU campus life. As a Student Mentor, your responsibilities include attending classes with students, assisting with study skills and homework, supporting students at work, helping students get involved in campus life, and guiding students to become self-advocates. Student Mentors should be able to work 5-10 hours per week.

Expectations:

  • Participate in Viking Pathway Student Mentor trainings and monthly meetings.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Be a positive role model on and off the job.
  • Know and abide by all University rules and regulations.
  • Maintain a positive attitude toward the position.
  • Show effective communication, organization, and time management.
  • Able to work and make decisions with minimal supervision.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned pertinent to the position.
