Summer DVM Student 2nd Year, ER

VCA Canada Calgary Animal Referral and Emergency Centre is accepting applications for our 2026 Summer Veterinary Student DVM position. This is a great opportunity to apply your classroom studies within a hospital environment and acquire first-hand experience in working closely with VCA Canada veterinary professionals.

Our Summer DVM Student position will provide you with invaluable insights into your career path post-graduation. As a valued member of our team, you will develop practical and professional skills by working under the supervision of a licensed veterinarian and/or registered technicians/technologists.

You will be introduced to the inner workings of our hospitals while also gaining exposure and education in the following areas:

• Patient intake and triage
• Patient handling and restraint
• Client care and relationship management
• Treatment and hands-on compassionate care
• Observe or assist in surgical & non-surgical procedures, and anesthesia
• Record keeping
• Train in the use of in-house practice management software
• General hospital maintenance
• The amount of responsibility, duties, supervision, and delegation will depend on your veterinary school year and provincial veterinary legislation guidelines*

Requirements:

• Applicants must be enrolled in an AVMA-accredited DVM program
• Legally authorized to work in Canada
• ABVMA temporary DVM license
• Must be able to lift at least 40 lbs repeatedly
• Exceptional client service skills that build trust and loyalty
• Calm, compassionate, and nurturing attitude
