Design and Release (Wire Harness Engineer)

The EDS Design and Release (D&R) Engineer is responsible for the design, development, validation, and release of the wiring harnesses under her/his responsibility. The EDS D&R is also responsible for design improvements that lead to quality increase, cost and weight optimizations.

  1. Complies with program cost, weight, quality, performance and timing targets.
  2. Complies with Robustness Engineering Disciplines (Quality history, P-Diagram, FMEA, etc.)
  3. Knowledge and application of six sigma and 8D
  4. Leads Technical Design Reviews (TDRs)
  5. Release parts in FEDEBOM and WERS through the product life cycle. Support the Change Control Meeting.
  6. Audit and update BOM (Bill of Material) with correct part levels and usage, for prototype builds and maintain it post Job 1.
  7. Identify validation, durability and functional test required as per SDS & ES. (DVP / FEDE DVP dashboard)
  8. AIMS and DPA resolution.
  9. Analyze and breakdown PDL and Trim Spiders.
  10. Generate proposals to minimize giveaway cost and reduce total part count.
  11. Develop and maintain the build level complexity charts.
  12. Perform Harness Complexity Analysis.
  13. Perform engineering cost estimates.
  14. Define and verify engineering prototypes requirements at part level.
  15. Parts implementation/Sign-off in assembly plant & assistance with quality issues in all milestones.
  16. Support VQR's, VRT's and PVT, as required.
  • Engineering Degree (electrical desirable) or related disciplines.
  • Strong English Proficiency (written, read, and oral).
  • Basic 3D CAD Knowledge (Tce)
  • Microsoft Office Usage (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Visio).
  • Time and Project Management.
  • Ford GPDS.
  • Understanding of feature partitioning.
  • Understanding of automotive systems.
