The Herman B Wells Center for Pediatric Research conducts basic science and translational research within the Department of Pediatrics at Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM). The Wells Center houses more than 300 faculty investigators, staff, and trainees seeking answers to the most pressing questions related to childhood illness.

With the collaboration between scientists and physicians, the center aims to increase knowledge of causes and mechanisms of serious pediatric diseases. Our goal is to develop innovative approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of sick children in Indiana and beyond.

Job Summary

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Aids in preparing data and manuscripts/grants for dissemination for scientific review under the direction / guidance of the principal investigator (PI).
  • Orders supplies, maintains mouse colony and tissue culture, and performs assays under direction of the PI.

General Responsibilities

  • Performs highly complex and intricate laboratory experiments.
  • Leads protocol development, data analysis and report preparation.
  • Maintains safety records and ensures safety/compliance procedures and protocols are followed.
  • Hires, trains, and supervises lab staff and student employees; assures observation of safety policies.
  • Maintains fiscal accountability of the program and approves all expenditures for the lab.
  • May develop, prepare, and coordinate grant applications and grant-related activities to obtain funding for research projects and related work.
  • May present research findings to staff, leadership, and external partners.

Qualifications

Combinations of related education and experience may be considered. Education beyond the minimum required may be substituted for work experience. Work experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted for education.

EDUCATION/ WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

  • Master's degree in science related field plus 3 years of research experience; OR
  • Bachelor's degree in science related field plus 6 years of research experience.

Working Conditions / Demands

The role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. The role frequently requires the ability to move about the work environment and to position oneself to operate laboratory equipment effectively. The role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds and will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Additional Information

This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

Additional Information

$65,000 - $75,000, based on experience, skill level, education, and training.
