Automation Controls Engineer
JOB SUMMARY:
Automation Controls Engineer is responsible for leading the design, programming, testing, installation, and maintenance of large-scale electronic equipment or machinery for use in Android’s/Avancez’s manufacturing/assembly operations. Develop, maintain, and improve automation control systems integral to Android’s/Avancez’s manufacturing/assembly operations. Applications are broad and varied, requiring inclusion of technical and business context and solving of non-routine problems.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Evaluate control systems, products, components, and applications.
- Evaluate new manufacturing and control technologies, adapting into specifications as appropriate.
- Program PLCs and HMIs both from templates and new development following company standards
- Confirm control system functionality, including appropriate safety compliance, by designing and/or executing test procedures.
- Prepare and/or review electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic controls drawings for equipment purchases; collaborate with related engineering teams to evaluate components, materials, and suppliers.
- Manage supplier development and delivery.
- Keep equipment operating and improve equipment uptime by performing periodic audits; troubleshooting breakdowns; requesting supplies; defining and reviewing preventive maintenance plans; calling for repairs; and implementing process improvements.
- Maintain project documents using approved methodology, tools, and templates.
- Maintain PLC documentation upon receipt from equipment suppliers and an archive of PLC programs and machine controls drawings in electronic format.
- Implement and maintain data collection systems from plant floor processing equipment.
- Participate in PFMEA analysis and as a knowledge leader for lean manufacturing and other continuous improvement projects.
- Identify and implement error-proofing requirements throughout the production process.
- Identify and plan for process impact(s) as a result of engineering and launch changes.
- All other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's or Associates degree in Electrical/Controls Engineering or other degree with relevant experience
- Years of Experience: 7+ years’ experience as a manufacturing/controls engineer in automotive manufacturing or assembly facility.
TRAVEL:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Working knowledge of automated assembly systems, basic theory of industrial control systems applications, design and operations, including concepts of power distribution.
- Depth of knowledge in tooling design, process and layout design, quality engineering, ergonomics, health and safety.
- Technical competence with IT and control systems; program and troubleshoot machine controls (Siemens-Step 7; Allen Bradley-Ladder Logic.)
- Ability to diagnose problems with hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical systems interfacing with electrical and electronic systems.
- Apply knowledge of electronic and instrumentation principles to determine equipment malfunctions and restore equipment to operation.
- Understanding of and experienced in program launch process (including APQP; PFMEA; control plans; plant layout; tooling and equipment design, development and implementation; facility deployment; etc.)
- Strong project management skills; ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and maintain attention to critical details and deadlines.
- Skilled in root-cause based problem solving tasks to ensure that abnormalities, when observed, are acted upon to resolve root-causes.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD.
- Ability to learn new technologies.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to conduct training, interact and collaborate effectively with leadership, peers, sales, vendors, plant team members, etc.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office software, TIA Portal, Logix Designer (RS Logix), Profibus, ProfiNet, Ethernet IP, FactoryTalk View, Cognex In-Sight.
