Job Title: Phlebotomist

Job Description

The main function of a Phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. This role involves collecting and storing specimens according to established procedures, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the specimens, and complying with regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

  • Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and decontamination.
  • Update patient information and properly explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collections.
  • Demonstrate techniques using straight and butterfly needles and fully understand all physicians' orders.
  • Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes and handle specimens as required by test orders.
  • Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure accuracy.
  • Package specimens for transport and store sample specimens according to required temperatures.
  • Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and attend annual department training.
  • Answer telephone inquiries and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

Essential Skills

  • Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment.
  • Minimum of 6 months' experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • High School Diploma or GED.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • 1+ years of phlebotomy experience.
  • Verifiable experience drawing on all age groups.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Asheville, NC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $15.00 - $21.00/hr.
